The qi car chargers on DX and aliexpress are all really expensive. I thought about getting a cheap desk one and putting it in the car but am stumped at the mounting and getting the phone ”docked" vertically. How are you going to do it?

I'm not doing anything too fancy - I've got a tray where I sit my phone in the car, and it connects via bluetooth to the headunit/handsfree setup, so I was going to get another one of the rectangular chargers and wire it in via a chopped up 2.1A car-socket USB charger to recharge the phone while I was driving. The headunit has GPS etc included, so I don't need the phone for anything except calls. If I had wanted to use it while it was in the car (for GPS etc) I would buy one of the official nexus Qi chargers, as the magnets on them can easily hold the phone in place vertically, and power it the same way.

There is a whole thread on xda-developers about how people have gone about this. I've already got a real cheap wireless charger from AliExpress along with a suction cup window/dash mount that it will be glued to. I've also got some 15 x 2 mm N52 neodymium magnets on their way from eBay. When they arrive, they'll be glued onto the face of the charger, then coated with Plasti-dip - the sprayable rubber coating helps prevent the phone from sliding off the face of the charger - apparently. I did try my genuine Nexus wireless charger in the car, but the power adapter/cable combo I was using wasn't up to scratch and the charger wouldn't work. It appears to be a bit choosy about the quality of the adapter and/or cable.

I'm loving my new Nexus 5 - I have a Spigen White Slim Armor on it, with Spigen Glass protector.. and holy ****balls Batman, it looks great!

It's so fast, and the camera update has made it quite decent in the photo department. I think the update slightly improved the speaker volume too.. but this could still do with some work ; it's usable though.

So far I'm not regretting leaving WP8 and my beloved Lumia behind, it's been a good move :)

Does anyone miss not having a radio in the nexus 5. I find its a real pain not having a radio and don't want to have to carry both a phone and a radio with me

Nope. I stream whatever radio I want. For me it works more reliably anyway! :-)

Nope. I stream whatever radio I want. For me it works more reliably anyway! :-)

I'd stream radio if I needed to. Data use isn't that high for radio.

If you don't want to faff around with magnets etc. (which I did with my N4), I bought this one just before xmas (it's gone up US$10 since then), and it works perfectly with my N5 having did 1500kms without a hitch over the xmas break and still going strong now....YMMV.

yes you need the phones as aerial but I prefer them anyway dont want to inflict my choices on anyone else.
Not sure about streaming I tend to use radio a lot throughout the day. Are you streaming in 4G or 3G or GPRS
I only have 500Mb of data a month and it can go quite quickly

I quite miss having a built-in radio in a smartphone, coming from HTC one.
Isn't there like an accessory you can attach to a smart phone for radio?
What apps are you guys using for streaming?

Either iHeartRadio or TuneIn Radio. TuneIn has a bigger selection, so normally I use it. I don't typically use it away from home, so I'm normally on WiFi and I use my tablet, because battery drain is less of an issue. We don't really have a conventional radio at home these days. Reception was always such a problem, but internet radios are always crystal clear (except when the WiFi goes down for any reason).

Was in Jaycar today and noticed they had some QI chargers there Powertech plus $69.00
Decided to get one for Nexus 5. They also had some QI addon's that allow you to add QI charging to non QI phones. I got one for a S3 Galaxy that we use. It is really quite neat opened the S3 popped the card in and closed it up and its now charging on the QI pad.
The nexus 5 also charges beautifully. May go back and get another charger as we have a lot of phones in our house

$69, Ouch!

I now have 3 wireless chargers - a genuine Nexus Wireless Charger from Amazon for probably about $65 (including postage), a generic one from eBay I paid about $25 (free postage) for, and another generic one from AliExpress that I paid about $17 (free postage) for. The last one is about to be converted to a magnetic car charger. They all work great, and I like having one at work - it's so much easier to keep the phone topped up during the day when you don't need to plug it in.

I'd definitely go AliExpress if you want a cheap wireless charger.

I don't know I think $69 is pretty reasonable considering one of yours cost the same. Do any of yours allow non QI phones to be charged.
Also any problems I can pop into supplier and sort it out.
