Is that a good price seeing as you can't get the 32GB version in NZ? I'm currently on Vodafone and this is only on 2Degrees. I don't mind switching to 2D but are you able to buy a 2D phone and put a Vodafone sim in?

You certainly can pop a Vodafone SIM in - the Nexus 5 works swimmingly on our network, HD Voice & 4G included. :)

I can attest to that which is one of the reasons I jumped from 2D to VF - LTE.

Does the nexus 5 have 2degrees customizations/settings on it? Does it know its a 2degrees phone or is it completely unbranded

Unbranded, its a Nexus phone laughing

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

The Nexus will work fine with a Telecom Sim too.

The nature of Nexus phones is that they are unbranded and not carrier locked. They run vanilla Android without manufacturer or carrier bloat.

So its basically no different to one brought from google play in the US? and uses the exact same as one of the images here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

And 2degrees doesnt have to test the software?

Just a wee bit of news for anyone still following this thread.

I obtained my N5 back in November on the first day they became available at WS. I've been really pleased with it apart from I don't like switching off functionality, so I sometimes struggle to get thru the day on a charge. To be fair the problem is normally exacerbated by software issues such as the qcamera daemon bug. Mostly just nuisance issues that we hope will be solved when 4.4.3 is released.

Anyway, my phone started acting up in the week leading up to Easter. By the Thursday I couldn't make calls and my phone would loose its sound and listening/voice recognition within about 15 minutes of a reboot. It also started random reboots and the new camera app was crashing/not sensing orientation. After reversing settings, removing all manner of apps, and eventually re-flashing stock, unrooting, and re-locking it got to the point where the sound/voice functions would give up virtually immediately upon reboot. So my phone was dead in the water leading into a long weekend. The only bright spot was that I had a local 2 year warranty. Warehouse Stationery told me that I needed to return the phone to them and it would take 2 weeks. I don't know about others, but I don't want to be separated from my N5 for 2 weeks. So I rang LG Care. It turns out they are in Australia, so they assume everyone bought their Nexus off Google. After explaining how we're the poor NZ cousin and LG themselves are responsible, they gave me a claim number to just take my phone to FoneFix in Greenlane. I took it there on the Tuesday after Easter and they were great. They said software issues can be a bit tricky, so it might take 2 days, maybe 3. In the end the phone was fixed by late Thursday and I was able to pick it up on the Saturday after Anzac. New motherboard, new back cover (apparently the vibration unit was a bit dodgy too) and I'm back in action, the phone feels fresh and happy as Larry.

Another little tidbit of info some may be interested in - I read somewhere someone posting that you shouldn't remove the IMEI sticker from the back of the N5. I thought this was ridiculous since it's clearly just a sticker and not designed to be permanent. Anyway, it turns out that the IMEI is also etched into the sim tray - so the sticker is expendable. Apparently most manufacturers use some special software to put the old IMEI onto the new motherboard when it is changed. However LG just issue a new IMEI for the phone - including a new sticker and a new sim tray! But they still keep track of the old one too, so you can still use the number off your N5 box to lodge a warranty claim.

No and Yes.

No - it is not exactly the same as a US Play Store one - the US model D820 has a different range of LTE bands (because the US break their 4G spectrum up completely differently to just about everyone else). The D821 is the international model which is sold here (and the Australian Play Store). The D820 will work here on 2G/3G, but won't work on 4G.

Yes - the factory image is one and the same. However I suspect it might be possible that some apps are disabled by the local play store (e.g. Google Wallet is missing from my phone) Not sure about that though.

It doesn't, but if you unlock and root it, then you can put your own customisations on it to your heat's content! wink

just got a nexus 5 last weekend.  my s3 kept rebooting and i broke the charger so had to wireless charge it.

loving the nexus 5, feels about half the weight of the s3, the wireless charging is a lot better (s3 would heat up a lot if not lined up exactly on the wireless charger).   signed up with 2d to get the phone ($9 extra a month than i was paying vodafone, i didnt get a phone from vodafone), opted for 24months + $39 plan + $299 outright.  which turned out to be $304 since i had to buy a sim, which honestly i thought was pretty stink.... if you're signing up for 24 months the least 2d could do is give you a free sim card....

only small issue is the speaker placement, if holding the phone in landscape your hand covers the speakers at the bottom of the phone (can move your hand, but slightly silly place for them, when i was playing a game the sound was blocked).

wireless on the nexus 5 is good, a lot better than my s3 was.  taking photos is quick about the same as the s3 i think.

i took the IMEI sticker off the back :)  just shoved that in the box.

Anyone know a good wallet case without a magnetic clasp/closure?

Just found out that magnetic closure interferes with a compass on the phone..
