NZtechfreak: Looks fine, I'm not much into white devices though, but oh well :)

First disappointment: somehow Samsung have messed up MHL and standard MHL adapters do not work (there is a specific one coming for the S3, but exceedingly annoying since one of MHLs purported benefits is that it is a connection standard).

Otherwise though just awesome!

To paraphrase the Speights ad " It's hard to find the perfect phone, mate".  I am looking forward to to some of your real world reviews, and in particular a comparison between this awesome new handset and the HTC One X.  Everything I have seen so far is with review units or straight off the spec sheet.  Not sure which network you are going to run the SGS3 on but an operational comparison in similar conditions will also be of interest to me.

The 2 features that turned my head initially were 'Smart Stay' and 'Pop Up Play', but having played with an App similar to PUP from the Play Store (StickIt), I doubt its utility in everyday use unless you connect the handset to a TV, a phone screen (even a 4.8" one) is just too small.  And as for Smart Stay, not sure I want my phone constantly looking at me Undecided.

After your excellent comparison of cameras with last year's models, that will also be of interest.

Edit: Wrong app referenced.

freitasm: Ok, time to go to bed... I've posted what I have here, which will go live at 00:01.

I am not sure what in that press release contains anything that wasn't posted 100 times before  (In terms of facts). Not criticizing, I am just not sure why they didn't want you to release it prior to midnight.

Just went into Petone WHS and my S3 hasn't arrived :-( they expect it to come today.

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Any word on genuine accessories?

Also - given that each carrier sounds to be implementing their own individual (and presumably completely incompatible) NFC software, what problems is this likely to cause for the consumer?

Given that 2Degrees has implemented Snapper on their devices, does this mean that a 2D SGS3 will be stuck on the launch firmware forever or might they actually release updates if/when they appear down the line in an even remotely timely fashion? (I'm guessing the "open" firmware that Samsung released a couple of days ago will be newer than the NZ launch firmwares)

From memory I think the NFC security stuff was done on the SIM rather than the phone, so I guess if you dont like what a carrier is doing you move. Someone may have a better idea of the implementation than what I remember from the Snapper launch however.

Yep, I stayed up for it.

Other thing...I had a dozen pages open from VF, XT etc FB pages too and refreshing at Midnight, just to see what they all would be doing for the "most pre-ordered device ever"...totally underwhelming to say the least. We Kiwi's don't know how to have fun, bit sad that it. Cry

I have mine pre ordered through company supplier Undecided, mistake in my opinion.

But I did learn something - Next time I'm looking forward to a product launch "go line up" and pay whatever the price is. It's more fun and you REALLY ARE THERE launching. Smile

Any extra you pay on the night say 12.01 is worth every penny Laughing

Cheers and already looking forward to the next big one!

Samsung S3 NFC is via the battery. So if you buy any spare batteries and intend on using the NFC component, make sure they are NFC type.

NZTechFreak - at least there won't be any disagreement about the title of this thread now :)

Still hanging out for a positive message about my blue from WHS before the middle of June.
