Dingbatt: This thread seems to have gone pretty quiet for a while and I'm wondering if it is indicative of how the M9 is faring..

I have been wondering the same, even the S6 doesn't seem to create the same levels of discussion as it's predecessors, have phones got to a point where the real world gains are relatively insignificant that people are buying mid range models or keeping older models longer. My M7 still holds its own, i was dead set on upgrading to a M9 but at release I just couldn't quantify it

Maybe 2016 will be the year for must have smartphone technology, here's hoping!!

+1 for keeping the M7. The only device I would purchase this year would be the G4, however I too think I will keep my M7 for another year.

I guess the main problem being that the way HTC is performing this year there may not be an M10. My M7 has frustrating lag at the moment because of what I expect it to do. So I want something faster.

Still using the HTC M9. It's a reliable device, fast and had no problems with it whatsoever. I can't really understand why people would go with a Samsung Galaxy instead, given the choice.

My warrantee replacement m7 came with lollipop preinstalled and I'm finding it very hard to justify a new phone.

Yes, the so-called "Hero Phone" that will turn around the company's fortunes. Could just as easily be a new Desire mid range phone instead.
Isn't there already an M9+? You know, the one with a uHD screen and a fingerprint scanner?

If they release something in September, unless it is a game changer, it will just get swamped by the announcement of the iPhone 6S/6S+.

I see the parallel importer's price for the M9 has now dropped below $1000 (PBTech). Only a little bit to go until it is at a price I am prepared to pay.

A new system update is available. It mainly improve battery charging so the device is not as hot while plugged in, and some more improvements for the camera in low light conditions.

Rumours of an international release of the M9+ in September. I wonder if HTC are going to pull the same thing that they did with the OneX and OneX+?

Was about to make a decision M9/S6, but in the same bunch of tech media rumours is talk of an S7 in the third quarter.

As my M7 seems to have a new lease of life since a factory reset I may be forced to sit on my hands (for a couple of weeks at least :-P).

The Android 5.1 update for the Vodafone NZ HTC One M9 was network approved this morning.

As always, it's up to the manufacturer to roll it out at their own schedule from this point.

That raises a good point - it's bad enough that we have OEM delays in getting updates that google make to Android (often containing critical bug and security fixes), AND we have to then wait for our carriers to test them....NOW we ALSO have to wait for the likes of a third party company to test and whitelist it also.

HTC has to date worked directly with Semble to provide software for testing at the same time it has been supplied to the network operators (As has Sony). I'm unsure if this is still the case as there have been some changes to their local representation recently, will inquire.

It takes us a week to test updates max, unless there is a major showstopping issue or an absolutely mission-critical priority. I think that's fair enough to make sure an update doesn't cause devices to drop off the network, interfere with other devices or the network itself, drop calls, send mystery texts by itself, blow out the SAR rating, or other undesirable things. For everyone who wants an update 'right now', there are many more people who want their phones to 'just work'. :)

As for Semble, no, their testing process absolutely does not delay the deployment of critical software updates in the NZ market. It's part of our agreement.

Ok, so I never said that the carriers were the cause of the MOST delay... :) BUT it's still an additional delay nonetheless - consider that running a nexus device or a custom ROM, I get updates as soon as they're made public. How many devices are STILL waiting for Android 5.1, or 5.0 even? As for Semble, I realise that's not going to delay software rollouts, however if you want support from them as a user of their service then you either need to delay updating your device when the update IS available, until they've tested it and whitelisted it.

My point really is that there needs to be a better way for this stuff to happen, or as users, we ought to be able to choose our devices and services based on all the facts - I doubt that many people who use Semble gave any consideration to the fact that there is this implied constraint on their device that using this software has introduced.
