I bought a Spark badged Z5 a couple of weeks ago. Impressions so far are mostly good, but the fingerprint sensor is more miss than hit, and was one of the main features I wanted when I bought a new phone. Everything else seems great (apart from a few annoying Sony apps that can't be removed).

I updated to firmware version 32.0.A.6.152 today. Apparently it includes some fingerprint sensor improvements, so I'll give that a few days.

Would love to hear other people's impressions of the Z5 family, especially the fingerprint sensor, as I'm debating in my head if that's a big enough problem to return the phone.

My experience with the fingerprint sensor is great. Push on button then leave thumb lightly on sensor for a split second and I'm in.
Semble is now live on my Z5 as well running on Vodafone network

After the update to 32.0.A.6.152, the fingerprint sensor got a little better, but still failed most of the time. However, I've since got it working most of the time for my thumb by saving my thumbprint five times, at different hand temperatures. It's still terrible if my hand is sweaty, but works otherwise.

Battery life is better in the last few days too. I was at 60% after 12 hours with moderate use, pretty sure it used to be around 45%.

Hey that's good to hear. I'm still doing some research. How do you find the camera? I've seen some posts around the place whinging about the low light shots?

Hey that's good to hear. I'm still doing some research. How do you find the camera? I've seen some posts around the place whinging about the low light shots?

There's a great, very detailed, thread over on XDA that highlights just how piss sht the camera is.

There's a great, very detailed, thread over on XDA that highlights just how piss sht the camera is.

The camera is great compared to Smartphones from a couple of years ago. Not sure how it stacks up to the latest iPhone and S6s, but so far I'm really happy with it.

I have been waiting for the Z5P as well. I think it won't arrive on our Shores due to market size. I am leaning towards getting it through parallel imported channels.

Had the z5 now for about a month and I must say most of the critsim it gets to be unwarranted and more about style than substance.
As an experienced photographer I find the camera to be perfectly adequate for a phone with no real faults.
Video in HD is also very good.
The z5 also offers some advantages over the competition (Samsung and Apple) in front facing speakers, SD card,waterproofing and a skips the 'me too' styling of the others.

There's a lot of posturing over cameras at the moment as to which is best. My thinking is that quality across samsung, apple, nexus and sony now is very good across the all flagships and any differences are at the margin.

And it looks like you will be getting close to stock android for marshmallow update - a lot of positive comments from those on the concept trial. I still love my Z2 - would like the Z5, but not enough improvement over Z2 to warrant the $1,000+ to upgrade.

Apart from maybe the Nexus 6p, I think the Xperia Z5 is the best phone on the market at the moment ... IMHO (-;
