Ok sorry this is weird I tried many apps from market but none of them worked earlier but it's working now.

Thanks to cognition rom coz I can't think of anything else which might've fixed it.

OK, now I'm getting annoyed. How come the live wallpaper (either the beach or the windmills) is completely out of sync with the Accuweather widget on my S2????? The weather widget is nice and sunny, has been all day yet the wallpaper insists its raining (and has been doing so for a few days now).

What gives?? And there's no way of telling the wallpaper where I am, the widget knows and is right.. Anyone else having this little problem?

And I patched through kies last night to the latest firmware and I seem to be using much less battery today...

cheers

everybodylovesfebs: Yep screen is set to auto brightness.

I'm on xda atm, but there quite a few threads on batterystats most of them showing how to reset calibration, reset batterystats in system?

Sorry, it's actually Betterbatterystats - here's the link:

I have followed this thread for some time on and off as I am seriously considering replacing my old BB with a droid. I think the idea of an FAQ as a reference document is a great resource for people that want to mod their devices. I do however have a question that I haven't seen raised and that is does the S2 support Skype video calls using the front camera over wifi and or 3G?

Does anyone know how to remove (or toggle it, even better!) the adfree host from a custom rom...? I'm getting annoyed with clicking on links and having them return a blank screen. Not all advertising is bad...

Just edit the hosts file and remove all the entries that resolve ad sites.

It's in /etc, but as that's in the root directory, you'll need something like Root Explorer with SU access to view it.

Make sure you don't delete:

127.0.0.1    localhost

It needs to be there.

Lol. I just found it. Was going to rename the file, but will make a copy instead and modify that. Thanks for the help! Sucks not being near a computer when needing to do this...

The current official version of Skype doesn't support video calls on the SGS2 but dev - theos0o has modified the current build to not only provide full video support on the SGS/SGS2 but on many other devices as well over both wifi and 3G. He's added many great additional features also. I can recommend it highly, but leaving Skype running for long periods will suck your battery dry.

Update:

The FAQ is coming along nicely, and I have nearly completed the whole rooting / flashing section. I have made heavy use of hyperlinks and references to relevant threads on XDA.

Please check it out (link in my sig below).

Still, if anyone has time some healp with some of the todo's would be appreciated (under the Contents link). Basically, just choose a catagory there and add a page (pagebreak) onto the end of the document (but before the appendix). Try to keep the same formatting lol. It SHOULD be editable.

I'll overview the progress and add in more when I can.

Thanks for any help you can provide lol.

The seller most of us have used is Melbourne based: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250824932406&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

The shipping cost on it is a bit steep.  I bought mine from this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260793913209&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Works out to be US$8 incl shipping, although it took a while for it to arrive though.

Leomar vs Cognition vs Villain vs Litening

anyone?

I'm having  bit of trouble understanding this from reading instructions on how to install LeoMar/VillainRom from xda forums.

I'm currently on modem XXKG1 and kernel Ninp.

In order for me to install LeoMar, all I have to do is download the zip file, boot into CWM and install from there regardless Leomar is based on XXKG3 and I'm currently on XXKG1?

Also a general question,

1. when installing new rom, given that my current kernel is compatible do I just have to install rom via CWM?

2. in case if kernel is not compatible and I need to install new kernel, do I just install new kernel through ODIN? And what happens to the current rom?
