It's a kernel issue. Fixed with later firmware releases. The Telecom one is 'old'

So further on my journey of exploration of the effects of inserting the Telecom SIM, the name of the phone in the Play store has changed and had "Telecom XT" appended to it and the startup splashscreen is no longer accompanied by audio (not a bad thing because it was too loud).
Has anyone discovered if a factory reset (without a sim in) will reset it to the original unbranded state?
Or if inserting a VF sim has the same branding effect (ie apn settings, shortcuts, etc).

Interesting. I am using a Telecom SIM but don't see the Play Store being renamed.

bradstewart: The network name in the Play Store has nothing to do with Telecom.

What I experienced after inserting the Telecom sim from my One X would suggest that what you said is not entirely the case. It may not be something Telecom does per se, but it certainly changes what the device recognised as in the Play Store because the only thing I did was put the sim in, boot up the phone and select "load provider settings".

I have become frustrated with the limitations of Sense (No infinite scrolling, limited grid choices on homepages and limited number of homepages) so have reverted to using Apex launcher (as I did on the One X). Blinkfeed needs a few more options before it becomes really useful for me. And I even prefer the old style Clock/Weather widget (using HD Widgets) which look awesome on the full HD screen.

Edit: ^ Play Store isn't renamed, what the device is recognised as in the Play Store, is.

I think it's the device name in the Play Store, not the Play Store icon name. Check this thread.

You can also do this (transparent clock and weather widget) using the Fancy Widgets app.

Downloaded this widget last night as I couldnt get that stock one to work as I didnt have a cable on me to transfer it too, will try again today.

Which widget did you use? There are only about 6 clock widgets and none of them are like the stock one, though I have come to a reasonable compromise.

(Hopefully my image works this time and isnt massive) (fingers crossed for BBCode noob)

What browsers are being used by HTC One owners? Chrome seems to be quite good however I've used Opera for many years and are using that as my default browser I've seen others on here mention Dolphin, I installed it but found it to be very jerky on some sites, and haven't been all that impressed so far.

Chrome, pretty much only because of Chrome Sync. Does what it says on the tin.

I've read a dozen or so pages in this thread but apparently not hard enough as I haven't seen the simple answer - can someone tell me, is the HTC One being sold by vodafone the exact same hardware/model (ie. same network/frequency support) as the one being sold by telecom?

If I am using vodafone, is there any reason to spend an extra $100 to get a vodafone 'version' of the phone?

Exactly the same. You spend an extra $100 for the privilege of using Vodafone's 4G network (if you are on the right plan).

Telecom's handset will be 4G enabled from October when Telecom launch their own 4G network. At the moment it's hidden through firmware.

After October when the Telecom handset is 4G enabled (through a firmware update presumably), will it function at 4G on vodafone too? (I haven't been keeping up to date with 4G frequencies..)

HTC One with stock Android may be coming:

I don't understand all the fuss about Sense. I personally think it's great and have no issues myself.

The added software that comes with any phone usually adds more value to the product.

I agree. The notion of a nexus S4 did appeal to me initially. But after having thought about it, some of the touchwiz features do make it nicer to use.

having said that, i think the nexus experience would be good for those who want to be developing or modding their phones based on pure droid. so it would appeal to those people and not end consumers

After some help here please. I am slow and unsteady on some of this so be kind....

My Galaxy S2 has a broken screen so I cannot transfer everything (hopefully including Message threads, photos, videos etc.) across to the HTC One using the HTC Transfer Tool.

I do have everything backed up on Samsung Kies on my computer. I was hoping Kies would "see" the HTC when plugged into computer but no luck.

Is there a simple way to transfer from Kies to HTC One where everything goes into it's correct position and I am left as a very happy camper?
