You've probably flashed a different modem which doesn't support 900Mhz.

If you've got CWM Recovery installed then there's a bunch of modems here:

Try BUJP5 or BUJV3.

Even if you've bought a i9000T it should still work in 2g mode on 2degrees.

Have you tried entering service mode and checking band selection...  (I don't take any responsibility if you fubar your phone by doing this).

Start by dialing  *#*#197328640#*#*
Which should bring up
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone control
[7] Network control
[2] Band Selection

And under 2
[1] Automatic [*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []

You could try checking combi bands and seeing that GSM 900 is not unchecked, or could just go to GSM bands and make it stay on 2g all the time.

Important - to go back a step in the menu structure press the menu button and then select back - don't use the back button

If you can, try borrowing a Vodafone sim from a friend and see how that goes.
