Really seriously thinking about doing the Gingerbread (v20d) update. I've read some horror stories with people who have had their phones bricked by the updater and also Gingerbread being extremely buggy and battery intensive. Has anyone here had any of the above issues? Im using a Telecom supplied P500h by the way.

Thanks!

I did the P500h update soon after it was released, first attempt failed in an odd way (updater was acting up), restarting the update process worked successfully.  Has worked great for quite a few months.

As far as bugs go, I was impressed with the quality based on the reports of horrible bugs, (the UI oddity with the pull down buttons, I haven't thought about that for months until now).

Battery life, I struggled to get ~ 1 & 1/2 days with little use & the 2.2  that it shipped with, since I updated to 2.3 I got quite reasonable (3+ days on good days) battery life with low usage, now get ~2 1/2 days with WiFi sleep disabled and K9Mail IMAP IDLE connection active.

Also in a low signal area (1-3 bars)

My p500 is 2degrees. You're right i lost my first one updating it but this one was ok. Dick Smith replaced it under warranty and said if it happened again they would replace it again. so as long as you have a warranty i would say go for it!

My 2 degrees P500 updated fine. Process was straightforward and all user data was retained.

Generally, the phone was a little faster and had a better interface after the update. I'd recommend it.

Upgraded a couple of months ago to a S2, but have retained the P500 for its N-drive in-car navigator.

I ran the LG update tool on my old P500 (it's now my Wifes...).

It was fast, easy and non-destructive.

That was the update to 2.3.3
I haven't done the update to 2.3.4 yet.

It worked?fine on my wifes P500. I've now put ICS on there and it's even better.

The tool is a bit rubbish, but the update is very much worth it, makes the phone noticably snappier and improves battery life.

I stuck Cyanogenmod onto the girlfriends one which made it even better, but it can be a bit of a nightmare to do. I'd put ICS onto it but the FM radio doesn't work and she uses that sometimes.

The hardware acceleration with ICS makes it feel a lot smoother than GB.

I updated and now I cannot read/open any text messages but everything is working fine.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Does anybody know where to get the Stock ROM?
I would like to try ICS but would like to get the stock ROM so I can go backwards.

Cheers

I _think_ this is the one you'd need - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180633

It'd pay to do some research, you need to make sure you're using the right baseband, and if you want to flash ICS then you need to have a rooted phone with the recovery installed. Once you have the custom recovery you can easily flash back & forth. Rooting the P500 can be a real pain.

I just stuffed my Telecom P500H when I was updating it using the supplied LG Upgrader. It locked at 4% during the upgrade phase. It is now stuck in 'Emergency Mode!!'. Not very impressed. I think you should be able to trust the supplied software updater.

Pretty sure mine came with 2.3.3 so don't know what the 'upgrade' was.

Taking it in to the Telecom Shop but it may have to be sent away for fixing I was told.

I currently have the P500h and I was unaware that there was an update. Currently running Android 2.2.1. Can someone explain where the update comes from. Is it on the Telecom website?
