I just discovered why my GN purchased on HK is not getting the latest ICS update. I found out the build on the phone is yakjuzs and not yakju. That is the Samsung build for ICS that has some localisation for Hong Kong. That means I have to wait for Samsung to release the updates.

I wonder if others have this issue or most of the parallel imported models are yakju?

I intend to flash the standard yakju build on the phone when I get the chance since I don't need the HK localisation and it would be good to get the Google updates when they come out.

I was lucky when I got mine at Christmas.  I had read about yakju and the other builds.  I read that the yakju build was updated by google while the other builds were by Samsung.  When mine arrived it was yakju

Well I bit the bullet and flashed the Google yakju 4.04 release which worked fine. I lost the Samsung Chinese keyboard but I don't need that and now I am on the Google update track.

The longest time taken in this process is restoring all the apps :-(

Mine is yakju. Got it from Clove last year. Updated OTA to 4.0.4 last week.

I suspect most of the parallel imports with be yakju. I had yakjuzs because a friend purchased mine in HK for me from a local retailer and they would have Chinese customisations over and above what Google provides in terms of language options. For example I noticed when I looked at keyboard options there was a Samsung IME Chinese keyboard option. That is now gone.

Next step having unlocked the boot loader is to root the phone :-)

Sort of unrelated but I just got a Nexus from Parallel Imported and it worked fine until I unlocked the bootloader. Now it wants a SIM unlock code, anyone else had this issue? Did I get sold a locked phone?

I had the exact same issue. You can contact your retailer for a SIM network unlock PIN or you can do what I did: root the phone and install F*ckDocomo V2. This will (apparently) permanently disable the network unlock request. I can't speak to the permanency as I haven't flashed a new ROM or anything, but it's worked fine so far. Hope that helps. Happy to give more info if I can, but I'm not an Android expert or anything...

Yeah I saw that free unlock but all the guy's links are dead and I thought the docomo version was just for Japan or something?

EDIT: right seems it does unlock any GSM Nexus, you got a link to the apk?

Hmm, link I used seems dead. I can post a copy of the APK I have on a filesharing site unless that violates the TOS of this forum. I'll have a look and see what I can do. EDIT: Here you go

Interesting that Parallel Imports appear to be selling GN's that are potentially locked.

Just to follow up on my previous post. emboldened by my success I decided to root the phone based on this set of instructions

http://galaxynexusroot.com/galaxy-nexus-root/how-to-root-galaxy-nexus-universal-guidegsmverizonsprintwindowslinuxmac/

That worked pretty well (obviously I didn't to the unlock bootloader step since I had done that already).

Then I decided to install Google Wallet and that worked fine with it giving me $10 credit and I was then able to add a further $20 as a proof of concept. Of course I have no idea where I can use it here unless I find a EFTPOS device that supports Paypass as the BNZ OneSmart cards use.

Loving the phone though, coming from a One X. Cheaper and stock android is so much nicer.
