ES File Explorer is an highly rated free Android File manager supporting a large range of file/data connection types.

In the network(Net) section Skydrive access is now supported along with Dropbox, Box and Sugarsync

I guess Google Drive will be the next storage app to be supported. ..some time..

For myself, I find the LAN accessibility to be a true boon when it comes to file access to and from my NAS using ES File Explorer.

Not a big Skydrive player, but thought I'd have a bit of a tool around in Skydrive and see what it has to offer in conjunction with Android.

If one downloads the Windows Desktop Skydrive app one sees the skydrive data as local folders/files within your nominated folder on your PC/Notebook.

If one creates a new folder on the desktop and moves a file (I tried pdf, png and jpeg) into the folder(s) it's seen relatively quickly in ES File Explorer on an Android OS. There is a bit of a delay as I noted a few (I don't do waiting)refreshes and maybe a 60sec wait before my 12MB PDF file appeared and was accessible.

In Skydrive on the desktop, there appears to be many parallels with Dropbox, although, from what I can determine, Dropbox may have the edge in things like selective sync'ing of folders on the PC and other nice little features.

Anyway, it's another few 25GB of free cloud storage which I can add to my free 50GB from Box and close to 10GB from Dropbox.
It's over 150GB all up... What does one do with such amounts of storage .... on a phone? That's alot of virtual Goldfish.

I use ES File Explorer too, I found it to be the best file browser for windows network shares.

The combo of ES File Explorer and either Moboplayer or VPlayer basically gives you a DLNA server as they'll happily stream any video file opened via a network share from ES. Tis marvellous!

I'm astounded that the app is still free.

I discovered yesterday it also has a very good FTP server in it. I used FireFTP in Firefox on my PC to download a heap of files off my phone while my daughter was playing a game on it.

In it's basic form ES File Explorer supports the following:

Local data including SDcard and general access, zip and RAR
LAN IP remote data and data streaming
FTP, FTPS, WebDAV
Bluetooth file management
DropBox, Box, SugarSync, Skydrive
Root write access

ES File Explorer supports write access to system files on a rooted system.

I use Root Explorer (File Manager) myself as it has a slight edge.

I have enabled Samba Filesharing on an Ethernet accessible Android device and then enabled access to the first devices files via ES File Explorer. Works a treat.

A wide range of other applications are supported within ES File Explorer, including most video applications.
OpenOffice documents can easily be opened on the local device, however if one attempts to open said documents on remote devices such as a NAS, this is not possible. One needs to do a manual copy to the local Android device before the document can be opened.
Other documents and files where supported, may be copied to the local Android device and opened in a one click action when viewed from a remote device.

ES File Explorer has an SDcard Analyst feature which gives basic diagnostics of data storage.

It was noted that ES File Explorer works well with Moboplayer or VPlayer, however using an XPERIA X10i with a feeble Adreno 200 GPU I find that MX Player (Pro) provides the best video reproduction. To enable this on an XPERIA X10i I set the encoder color depth to 16bit and use Software Fast mode encoding. This configuration allows me to watch most 720p DVD quality videos with next to no lag and still very watchable using ES File Explorer LAN on my NAS,

One of the few video players with LAN support is BSPlayer, this allows direct access to my NAS without having to use a middle man like ES File Explorer. BSPlayer does not support low end GPU very well, however for mid-range GPU like the SGX540 and above it has a unique feature and that's a pseudo hardware engine. This allows 720p videos (mkv,mp4 etc) to be streamed from a NAS to a 40" HD-TV in what appear to be HW mode via an Android OS.

I think ES File Explorer is the bees knees and up there with Fing and WiFi Analyser(Kevin Yuan) and K9 Mail (Use Kaiten Mail myself)

One thing. There is an ES adRemover.apk, which does imply there is some form of adware service involved with ES File Explorer.
If one makes a donation to ES File Explorer and as such enters ones Google/Android access address then by using adRemover with the correct Google account details any adware information being sourced should be stopped.. something to think about.
