With all the hype over semi brick type devices out there at the moment. I am in the market for a powerful android smartphone that is small. I like the the Sony Xperia Ray that my wife owns (btw i think that screens is better than my old galaxy s2) but I want something even more powerful than that but with the same form factor.

I don't know whether it fits your definition of small but for people after something more svelte than the Android flagships the HTC One S is worth a look.

Good specs but yeah smaller nicer looking style/form like xperia or iphone there is a big hole in the market for powerful but stylish and small I think. Closest I can think of is way back like the HTC diamond in white! but maybe with a full length touchscreen- with dual core and a super 300ppi screen!

Good choice I have not seen that one - for obvious reasons. HTC needs to up their game for some stiff competition in the candy bar phone market. Lumia 900 form factor is very nice but I think nokia has embraced W7 only.

I remember seeing a phone recently that had a 3.6 or 3.7 inch screen with 960x540 resolution and was a Sony Xperia. Might've been a Japan exclusive though

Yep, I was thinking about that one too but also can't remember the model name. Will check later when I have time.

If you have any link to that I would be keen as mustard to have a look at that please. This is where it should be heading instead of increasing the size of phones IMHO.

Sony Xperia SX: http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/16/3023645/sony-xperia-sx-hands-on-video

I
t appears to be Japan only at the moment but there may be a global model coming, who knows.

I don't agree that all phones should be heading this way, but I can see that there is a market for smaller phones as well. I think it's great that Android has a range of different sizes, but people shouldn't miss out on having a high-end phone just because they have small hands.

Fair call & thanks.  It seems that the media gives all the attention to the big and mighty phones like GS3 & HTC 1x  I thought.

The Xperia Sola might be worth a look, screen is 3.7inches (although I don't think that is the one Lokhor and I were thinking of).

The upcoming Galaxy Ace 2 i8160 might also be worth a look, dual core with the Mali GPU, 768GB RAM, BT 3.0, WiFi Direct (fair spec bump over the others around that screen size).

If you weren't specifically after Android then the iPhone of course is a tiny phone with great specs :)

I agree with Lokhor about screen sizes, I like the bigger screen devices myself, but I still think the segment of the market who values compactness should be well catered to for good spec devices too.

Yeah I like the specs of the Xperia SX it would make for a great user experience I think. One thing I have noticed so far is that Sony are definitely doing something right dominating the market in this area - unless anyone knows of any competition. I've been searching but I can't find anything yet...

Motorola Defy+ and the HTC One S. I just went through this with my wife, in the end I got a really good deal with the Galaxy SII and a week on she loves it and doesn't really notice the size, but does notice bigger, better screen, more power, better battery life etc.
