So i've been using Tasker for a long long time now to automate a few things on my android phones.

One of the primary ones is to mute the phone when it's on the dock charging between 11pm and 6am, and then un-mute when I wake up.

Since ICS separated the Notifications volume from the main volume Tasker has been unable to return my notifications volume to what it was before docking. In other words, Tasker can mute the phone over night but can't un-mute in the morning.

I sent a bug report and they replied to say that there is no workaround.

Has anyone used another automation program where this works?

Well, if anybody wants to know, Tasker is able to do what I want it to do with a little bit of fiddling around.

First setup a Task called 'Mute' with Audio -> Silent Mode set to On
Then setup a Task called 'Notification Full' with Audio -> Notification Volume set to maximum

Then setup a profile with: State -> Hardware -> Docked -> Desk and link it to the task 'Mute'
Lastly, long press the Mute part in the profile screen and select 'Add Exit Task' and select 'Notification Full'

This will mute the phone when docked on a desktop dock and then un-mute it and set the notification volume to full when un-docked. There seems to be some weirdness with ICS around un-muting notification volumes so you have to have the exit task or else it will keep them muted.

As an addition you could add a condition to this that it will only mute when docked between the hours you normally sleep and then un-mute even though it is still docked. This would be good if you use a dock at work and don't want it muted all day.
