Update: The phone arrived. More comments and information are below in subsequent updates.

I just ordered my unlocked LG 3D Max from Expansys-NZ. They say they have them in stock.
With any luck it may be here by the end of this coming week or early the following week.

I've really been looking forward to this for months. Having a 1.2GHz dual-core 3D phone with 1GB of RAM will be a good step up from the current 1GHz dual-core and 512MB of RAM in the existing model. It's also a lighter, thinner phone with better battery life.

One of the best features of the LG Optimus 3D phone is the 2D to 3D conversion of *any* flat image...and the on-the-fly 2D to 3D conversion of any video played on the phone....

Think about that......any image or video at all can be displayed in glasses-free 3D on the phone..and the new model will do it even better and faster.

Now I'm......waiting.

I've got a FedEx tracking number and Expansys say my new LG 3D Max will probably be in my hands on Friday afternoon.

I have the new LG 3D Max in my hand, all charged up. First thing I did after initial setup was check for a firmware / software update.

There is one.

It downloaded a 7.15MB file and is currently flashing/updating the firmware. It's at 69% after about 10 minutes....and steadily progressing.

Six hours with this phone has me thinking it's got the Samsung Galaxy S Ii feel in a 3D-capable phone.

In short, it's an excellent upgrade from the original LG Optimus 3D. :-)

Definitely do-able. I now have three 3D cameras. :-)

Though at a minimum 400mm distance, the phone will look a bit small.

Just a brief update.

I've been using this phone for 3 days now. I put it on a Vodafone account for best frequency match. It does 900/1900/2100 UMTS/3G.

(My 'old' LG Optimus 3D is a Telecom XT-compatible phone....so now I have one of each).

The battery life is MUCH better. I got to 1am this morning and still had 15% battery from a 7am un-plug. I had used it a wee bit. made a couple of short calls. Sent some texts. Took some 2D and 3D photos and uploaded them to Instagram and StreamZoo. Gmail notifications arrived all day. I was mainly on WiFi, but it went to 3G while I was out in the morning and the late afternoon.

When the screen is dark and the phone not in use the battery seems to drop about 1% / hour. Very frugal.

It's much lighter (20g) than the original...and a fair bit thinner. I read a review (gsmarena?) where the reviewer talked about "sharp edges" on the side of the phone.....but I think he hadn't removed the extremely thin plastic shipping stick-ons from the very narrow 'chrome' plastic trim....as I noticed this sharp edge, too.....and peeled off the tiny, tiny - almost invisible - strips...and the "sharp edges" disappeared.

The phone is very responsive. I turn off all animations anyway....but even allowing for that, the snappiness of this phone compared to its predecessor is a joy to behold. Doubling the RAM and increasing the (dual-core) CPU speed by 20% (to 1.2GHz) has made HUGE difference to the feel of the phone when using it. Having owned a Samsung Galaxy S II, I'd say this phone feels very close to it. If you liked the S II, then you'd probably like this phone....and the 3D makes it magic.

The camera on this phone is better than the one on the HTC Sensation. The Sensation's camera completely chokes when pointed at a light source that is too bright, just washing out the whole zone for sunrises and sunsets. The LG cameras - in the old version and the new one - handle light much better.

I'm still playing...but if anyone wants a 3D phone that is also just plain good otherwise, then this phone would be a good choice.

Day 4.

7am unplug. Battery still 36% at 23:20.

This could be the best Android phone I've had to date for battery performance without me taking any extraordinary measures or using any power-saving apps.

7am unplug today.

Checked some web sites. made a couple of calls. I stopped off on the way home and took some photos and uploaded a few to Instragram and StreamZoo over 3G.

It's 23:09 and the battery is on 33%.

I've had my new LG 3D Max for several weeks now.

It's fast.
It's light.
It has the glasses-free 3D display.
It has the 3D video and still camera.....and takes great 2D stills and video, too.

The wifi is fast.
The 3G is fast.

The reception is great.

It's never crashed.

This is an awesome phone.

If you don't know why you'd want 3D functionality.....maybe let me show you if you're in the Auckland area. Everyone I show this thing to is amazed......and they say things like "I didn't know you could buy things like that! That's awesome!"

It is.

If you want 3D functionality, then get this phone. If you know from first-hand experience that you don't...then don't waste your time reading this thread......It's not for you. But if some crusty old 3D movie gave you a headache 10 years ago.....then maybe you should give 3D another look. :-)
