I have a Sensation (on 2.3 - Telecom hasn't released 4.0 yet), and a car dock. In case you weren't aware, Navigation automatically launches when docked, and there is no way to change that.

In the last couple of days, Navigation is refusing to launch, saying I have to buy a new license for the NZ Maps to use it. At a rather substantial fee.

Does this sound right to anybody? I thought Navigation was free, and the fact that it is the default launch app with a car dock, yet I now have to pay to use it, seems a little on the nose.

No new ones, no - although Google Maps did update. Nothing in the update about maps though.

Ok open google maps

just put in 2 different address and hit navigation and see if it asks for you to pay.

I have a feeling you have installed something that is now taking over your google maps or something

Also might pay to install lookout or something to check for anything bad

Looked promising, but no - it downloaded the NZ map again, but still insists on me buying a license.

Interestingly enough - I can open and use Navigation just as an app (when not docked). No issues, no asking for a license etc.

It's only when I dock the phone that it asks - aren't they the same app?

I imagine this is using HTC's own Locations app, which recently started being a paid service. So when you dock your sensation it is loading the Locations app for Nav rather than Googles own. You should be able to change this in the Dock Settings area.

There's some suggestion in other forums that the default navigation app launched in the car dock is a Tom Tom app not Google.

Sounds like it might be time to explore the Cyanogen option.

Sounds like it might be time to explore the Cyanogen option.

I had Cyanogen for my Milestone, which was great. Is the Sensation one okay, do you know?

Maybe the upgrade to 4.0 will resolve the issue? I more like the thought of going to an official 4.0 than a hacked 2.3.7.

Install a 3rd party "dock" application, it'll let you override the default.

I use "CarHome" which gives you a clock, speedo and big buttons to press to launch things. You can use this to add a shortcut to the regular Google Nav app.

It gets worse.

I have just taken the plunge with CyanogenMod and installed the latest CM9 update, along with the GAPPS.

I now get to the intro screen where it asks to select the language, I choose Start, it changes to the Welcome screen with "wait a sec", freezes, then it just reboots again. Or I try and change the language, which then doesn't let me choose Start at all, and it reboots as well. Repeatedly.

I have tried reinstalling the ROM three times now.

I then repeated it all over again, but didn't install the Google Apps this time. Now, I get to the front screen (with no Intro screen asking for the language now etc?) but now it freezes after a couple of swipes and, you guessed it, reboots.

Arrgghh.... any ideas please?

p.s. With the CyanogenMod for my Milestone I have used in the past, I had to change the Baseband to Thai to get it to work in NZ. The Change Baseband option isn't in CM9 - is that a problem?

You shouldn't have to touch the baseband unless you wanted to manually flash it to a newer version, you need to make sure it's not a locked version or anything awkward though.

It might be worth trying an earlier build, the nightlies failed to build last night so there may be "issues" with the ones from the 5th for the pyramid build perhaps.

Try a build before the 3rd as there were a LOT of code merges in that build which might've broken something.

Initial boot should work fine without gapps installed, but you won't be able to add a user account etc without it.

Edit: Also, assuming you get it going, never use ROM Manager if you can avoid it, it's more trouble than it's worth.
