Well, I got sick of waiting and have attempted to install a custom ROM on to my Sensation (yes, this a follow on from a previous topic about Navigation).

The story so far - attempted to use CM9, which failed miserably. It simply would not take it - just kept rebooting. I've given up on CM9.

So I went back to the stock 2.3.

Then I tried another one: http://www.androidmerom.com/2012/02/05/release-androidme-sensation-v2-0-0/

Something went screwy with the PG58IMG.zip, as it came up with a CID mismatch error, and since then would keep rebooting between the htc and the htc "quietly brilliant" screens.
I tried to go back to the stock 2.3, but it still kept rebooting.

So...

radionut seemed to have the solution, using AndroidRevolutions ROM: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=98208

But still, following his exact instructions, that stupid PG58IMG.zip still came up with a CID error, it rebooted on it's own, and has now been sitting on "beatsaudio" screen for 20 minutes. He said it would take a long time - that's too long.

Do I now have a brick?

I think you have to make sure you match the firmware with the ROM. I had reboot loops after changing the firmware prior to flashing the rom. If you can still get into the firmware flash screen you should be ok. You just have to find a firmware to match your rom..

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thought so - ideally I'd like the right firmware for the AndroidRevolution ROM, but at this point I'd be rapt just to get the right one for the stock 2.3!

Google in this case, however, is not being my friend.

Remember to clear caches etc before flashing as not doing this can do boot loops as well.

If you are having trouble, I REALLY suggest reading the following thread in regards to getting an ICS ROM on your Sensation.

It's a lot of text but to put it simply, you NEED to have a compatible firmware in order to run ICS on the Sensation.

Must read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480061

In regards to which firmware to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767

If using the Telecom version (z710a) Scroll down and find the section named "OTHERS Part 2".

This section contains the firmware package that will work with the Sensation Telecom stocks. "cidnum: TELNZ001". I'm using version 3.32 and everything is fine.

Flash the firmware then flash your ICS ROM. The looping will be because you're not running a compatible firmware version.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for everybody's help. All sorted now - combination of adb and SuperCID. End result is I'm now on CM9 (tried AndroidRevolution) but prefer CM.
Plus it has the added bonus of not launching Navigation when car-docked - using Car-dock Home v3.

Great to hear. Can be mildly worrying when you get the wrong firmware. Good thing is now you most likely won't need to change radio firmware etc when trying another rom in the future.

Well done!

Give CarHome Ultra a try. I rate it pretty highly.
