Hi there. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which I parallel imported from Hong Kong. I want to update to ICS, but when I plug it in to Kies I get the following message:

Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies
Current Firmware Version: PDA:KI3 / PHONE:KI3 / CSC:KI3 (KOR)

When I do *#1234# I get
PDA:I9100ZSKI3
PHONE:I9100XXKI3
CSC:I9100OZSKI3

I am on the Telecom network

I have not rooted the phone or done any modifications at all.

Any idea why I can't update via Kies? I can't update OTA either.

Thanks a lot

Brett

Are you using OSX?  The Mac version of KIES doesn't support firmware upgrading.

I'd try reinstalling KIES - it's a fairly rubbish bit of software.  Some people have reported success by formatting their SD card and/or performing a factory reset, but that seems a bit severe.

Your other option is to download the appropriate (Hong Kong) firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=2#regiona and flash it manually using Odin (http://www.androidnz.net/2012/01/restoring-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-back.html)

OK Thanks for that.

I was hoping to avoid flashing it but if that's what it takes then I'll give it a go. Or stick with Gingerbread.

I have only just installed Kies for the first time, but will uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for your help

It might be a CSC mismatch - KIES is reading your phone as having a CSC of KOR, whereas the phone is reporting a CSC of OZS (which is the appropriate CSC for a Hong Kong sourced phone).  I can't find much information about the KOR CSC other than it shouldn't exist, and may be the result of a corrupted EFS folder and/or a bad flash.

Thanks again. So if I can find a way of restoring to a OZS version I should then be able to get an update via Kies. Ideally I would like to be able to update the easy way in future rather than have to mess around every time.

As a complete noob.. Will flashing my phone mean I need to reinstall all my apps etc. What about paid apps?

Cheers

If you flash the latest OZS firmware you should be fine - as far as I'm aware most ICS firmwares support OTA (over-the-air) firmware updates, which means that you no longer have to rely on KIES.  Most people recommend a factory reset after flashing a new firmware - once you log back in with your google account the phone should automagically download all your installed apps.

easiest way is to download the ROM you want from, using odin you can flash it.

I've just recently flashed my parallel imported S2 to the Vodafone NZ version, it did come at the cost of having to reinstall all my apps etc, but really not a big deal.

have a look at xda developers, they have plenty of how to's on flashing S2's
