Just wading through the info posted about Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean'. announced at the Google I/O. Some nice tweaks. Better speed is always good but I like the look of dynamic resizing and off-line voice recognition particularly. Thought I'd start this thread to see what features GZers can pick out as important to them.

4.1 is due for release in July so goodness knows when it will make its way to our (non Nexus) devices...

The bit where it anticipates your next screen touch sounds interesting.

Android 4.1 for Developers

The Android Beam Tech could prove useful with NFC touch and then Bluetooth to do the transfer of data.

WiFi-Direct has been enhanced, but I'm yet to read/confirm if one can make a WiFi-Direct connection and maintain your WiFi 'Internet' connect at the same time. The specs say you can, but it's up to the manufacturer to implement it. Guess time well tell.

Is the place where I start wailing and self flagellating about the time it is taking for me to get JB and how the delay has ruined my life :)

Yes. And add an additional 6 months if it is a Telecom handset.

It's been two months for a minor update to the 1.28 firmware, might be waiting a bit longer than that ;)

This will be Interesting to see how fast Samsung roll out an update for the S3, it is already rumoured for Q3 release. I suspect they have learnt from the mismash S2 ics roll out and will attack it in a far more effective manner.

From reading the US feeds it seems Samsung have (for the S3) pretty much done an apple on the US telcos and not let them f$#k up the firmware too much, so possibly rolling out updates may be faster for everyone going forward.

Edit: Wade you trendsetter.

Flashed JB on my nexus yesterday and it is a nice update. Everything is way smoother and the animations in particular are a big improvement.

Ah, no. wailing and self flagellating is reserved for 'Key Lime Pie'. Laughing

Jelly Bean is just murmuring and malcontent amongst the huddle masses.

I'm thinking Key Lime Pie, OTA delivery and slap stick comedy. Could get messy.

Yes, sorry, I meant 6 months after everybody else in the world is on JB. I will at the very least be on a WWE rom well before that.

Edit: Is the next iteration really going to be called Key Lime Pie??

Yeah the Galaxy Nexus' that were given out at I/O had 4.1. So it was definitely going to get dumped and uploaded as an OTA.

Just flashed the preview build to my GN too. The claims about "Project Butter" have not been exaggerated - this is every bit as smooth as an iPhone 4S. Looks to be a stunning update so far, and I haven't even got stuck into the vastly improved voice stuff...

i look forward to seeing the GZ forums reaction to this device, saying that Google "have lost their way" and they "don't understand the direction these days" because they're doing a WiFi only version, like they said about the Microsoft Surface devices
