Hi all,

I have a Telecom supplied Samsung Galaxy S - GT-I9000T and am a current Telecom customer.
My phone is on the latest available version of Android via Telecom, which is Gingerbread 2.3.3.

As I live outside of the major cities, I figure I'm on 850 MHz practically all of the time.
I'm investigating the move to CyanogenMod 7.2. It looks like a fairly straight-forward procedure, though I'm concerned it might come with an incompatible modem.

As this will be my first custom ROM experience, what advice could people give me with respect to this activity?

Make sure you have a copy of a stock image on hand, too, so you can flash back to it quickly if the 'upgrade' to CM proves to be problematic.

It's hard to brick the Galaxy S....but the country-specific ("CLC??) part of the firmware can be an issue. The first time I tried to flash my Galaxy S (using ODIN) I fell foul of this and the phone boot-loop crashed on start-up because it couldn't set up the country-specific features correctly. I had the Android SDK installed on my linux PC and could see what was going on in the phone's operating system via adb and logcat.

XDA-Developers was a HUGE help with information about how to flash and how to recover from 'mistakes'.

Thanks for your reply.
I did exactly that! Downloaded the stock ROM image as a precaution.

I'm fairly optimistic about Cyanogen, but a little concerned about the default modem being incompatible with Telecom frequencies. Any advice on this specifically?

Flashing Cyanogen wont change your radio/modem ;) Just leave it as it is... For now anyway
