As stated in the owners forum im having issues with my 1day old S3, im writing it here as i don't know how many people would be checking a 200+ page thread and i need a quick result or ill be taking it back to the store over my lunch break.
Has anyone out there got a telecom sourced s3 (i9300t) but using it on Vodafone, im interested in rural coverage in the 900mhz band. Mine just dosn't work, i get GPRS speeds out of it, have checked settings etc, its not misconfigured as the 2100mhz works fine.
I have a feeling telecom have borked the 900mhz (or i have a dud). It says on the back of the box it supports 900mhz but im not having much luck with it. I have confirmed by pressing *#0011# that it is infact on the 900mhz band.

How come you bought it from Telecom if you were going ot use it on Vodafone?

I got it from a noel leemings, i live in fairly small place, they had one or 2 xt handsets and no vodafone ones, they arnt expecting vodafone stock for another 7-10 working days.. I sort of wanted it then and there, and thought i had read that all the phones were the same it was just the branding that was different.

I suspect the XT and Vodafone handsets may just be running different firmwares? Can anyone confirm?

If so, just root and install the Vodafone firmware on it...me thinks

They were running different firmware and different modem software. Also one is a i9300 and the other a i9300t. I suspect some faffing has happened with the telecom i9300t hardware. I flashed the vodafone NZ firmware and modem over the top of the telecom model, it had no effect, it still wouldn't work on 900mhz.
I got it replaced with a vodafone i9300 and all is well :)

Just be aware that there are differences between device firmware settings for different networks. For example running a XT device on VF will result in reduced battery life, and running a VF device on XT will also result in battery life due to XT not supporting fast dormancy.

Wow this is the weirdest thing ever!

1) telecom stuffed up by accident
2) telecom did this on purpose
3) this should be a sticky to warn NZ buyers!

Also the stores that sell these phones and advertises them as working on all 3 networks (2degrees, Vodafone & XT) should be notified of this problem and they should specify that xt phones not fully compatible with Vodafone Network.

It's a bit sad when the manufacturer actually make a quad-band 3G data phone....and it STILL gets stuff up.

My daughter's new HTC One X works on anything (so far).....but we bought it from a Vodafone vendor and she's using it on Telecom. She also uses it mainly for txt and data via wifi....so I guess if the 3G data wasn't working right, she probably wouldn't know anyway.

I bought my GS2 from parallel import.. I am guessing it was the right choice coz none of the telcos got to meddle with it and so far I have tried it on all 3 networks (2degrees, Telecom & Vodafone) and all work fine with calls, txt and data..
