Just got a galaxy SII and having constant issues with internet connection. Phone connects fine over Vodafone network to data.

However, when I switch to wifi at home it loses internet connection. It shows in the notification that it is connected to WiFi and authenticates but cant access anything via internet or apps.

When i do a factory reset, it works fine for a day or so, then reverts back.

I have reset my router/modem to factory settings, and it solved it for a day, then back to the same.

I noticed when I went to advanced WiFi settings today that "IP address" is "unavailable", however, it previously had one when it was working. The IP was automatically assigned by the router. It still has a MAC address.

current specs:
Model: i9100
android version 4.0.3

Router modem is a dynalink RTA1025WE (from telstraclear).

Any help would be great guys,

I was having the exact same time happening with my S3 when I got it. Have turned WiFi off and the problem has gone away. But not ideal.

I wonder if the WiFi settings are getting corrupted and so it is still trying to use WiFi for any and all data - but it is not getting anywhere...

I've seen this problem elsewhere and it's a DHCP issue. If you set a static IP on the router & phone for the given wireless AP it will supposedly fix it.

If WiFi is active, it will always override the 3G connection.

EDIT: I don't think Gingerbread supports connection-specific static IP's, you may need to upgrade to ICS before you can do this if you haven't already done so. I'd also recommend checking if there's a firmware update for the router.

I hope that router wasn't supplied recently, as it's been discontinued for a _long_ time. Firmware _might_ be the one here:

It's a "W" not a "WE" though. Might be a good excuse to buy a better unit with 802.11n support.

I had a similar problem with my gs2 where it would keep disconnecting from the WiFi and then not reconnect even though it could see it.

Eventually found that the channel selection on the phone was set to auto yet it was picking a busy low quality channel. I set it manually to channel 6 and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks SteveNZ. I am on ICS (downloaded and installed latest firmware). I didnt see an option for static IPs on there. I think you're right, it may be time for a new modem router. I've had this one for 2.5 years. Off to the router forums now to choose a good one

Any suggestions on ones that work well in a 4 bedroom house, with 4-5 devices?

I swear by my Asus RT-N16 with the Tomato firmware flashed onto it. Rock solid and performs well.

It's pretty good even with the stock firmware though. I usually have about 3 wireless devices and about 5 wired device (via another switch) hooked into it at any given time and it behaves flawlessly.

Edit: Just realised that's of no use to you whatsoever as it isn't an ADSL unit, I use it with an external Draytek Vigor ADSL modem which is a good, reliable, cheap modem if you wanted to go the dual-component route. I've had lots of issues with Linksys units but generally the Netgear, DLink and TP-Link stuff seems to be pretty good.

I have a the same dynalink too, I often have to reset it to get connections to my phone or tablet, especially the tablet.
I think it doesn't like too many device connected to it or it can't handle it, we have a tv, xbox, two androids, one tablet and two computers connected at time, sometimes it works, other times it's a lemon, personally I think they are a POS.

It's possible that the router is on the way out, I had one of those for several years before one of the bigger capacitors inside it slowly died. The router seemed to be working fine, but gave all sorts of strange connection issues from time to time.

When you replace your router, take the top off the router and look at the capacitors. If you find anything that looks like this (or just with the silver bit bulging, not split) then that'll be your problem.
