Here's a curly one... in another part of the forum, I was discussing a way to back up photos on SDHC cards while travelling, while carrying the minimum of equipment. I have bought an external SATA HDD dock with SDHC for my laptop and wondered if I could get this running on my HTC One V phone- all it would take was a file browser and an appropriate connection. Unfortunately, it seems that because of the USB standard, there is no such thing as a micro-to-mini USB cable.

Does anyone have a cunning idea how I could get the phone reading and writing this device??

plus standard mini usb cable.

If you wanted to go hard-core you could always splice the cables together and leave out the bulky USB A socket/plug.

Yeah, I was considering spicing a couple of cables together. I just don't know what it might do for the data transfer- lack of shielding etc. might cause data rates to drop considerably. I might have to give it a whack. Can you recommend a good file manager for Ice Cream Sandwich?

I've used ES file explorer quite a bit, seems to work pretty well.

You have no real choice but to have 2 cables because USB host cables always convert to an A female (it seems).  It should be no problem at all, USB goes for metres without an issue so a 50cm cable should be just fine.  The only issue might be powering the drive :/

Does HTC One V support USB OTG? I don't think the HTC One X does without root/stickmount and/or custom firmware...
