I finally did a Viber update and now opening the app creates a shortcut on my homescreen whenever it opens.

I can delete the shortcut but restarting the app (first making sure its killed with task manager) causes it to be recreated.

Annoying!!!! Yep, a full 4 exclamation marks worth of annoying.

Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me and my Android 2.3 Overcome rom?

There's this helpful tutorial on how to hack the apk to stop it from happening, but the principle of the thing  i.e having to do this hack to remove an annoying 'feature' is winding me up.

Don't tell us, tell Vibr - if they piss people off they uninstall the apps = own goal

There is a Viber thread on GZ if you do a search, they have someone watching and participating in the thread.

It appears the iOS and Android 'Viber' threads are locked.

I did actually first head to the Viber feature request site and started typing in a request to remove this feature, but then thought I should canvas here to see if it was happening to anyone else as a quick google doesn't turn up many results.

Done.

Hi,

We apologize for our late response.

May we ask which device you have?
Also, are you running a Custom ROM on it?

I just reinstalled Viber on the weekend, no extra icons appearing anywhere.

Would love them to finally implement an "inactive user" notification.

Thanks for the reply.

I ending up uninstalling/re-installing and the problem went away.  Have had a few crashes since then though, and submitted the crash reports.

Its a Galaxy Tab 7 running the Overcome 7 series 4.1 rom.

@stevenz -
What exactly do you mean by the "inactive user" notification?

@tigercorp -
Please note that Viber does not officially support Tablets yet, and this may be the cause for some of the issues you're experiencing. We're continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more devices, and we hope to add full Tablet compatibility in the future :)

We're glad to hear this :)
Also, please note that a new update (2.2.2) is out and available now. Please try it out and see if it solves the problems mentioned above.

For users who installed Viber once 6 months ago and haven't used it since, they still show as a regular Viber contact but if I send them something, it disappears into a black hole. Some sort of icon or way to differentiate in an obvious way between active users and someone who hasn't logged into Viber in months would be nice.
