Hi All,

I love my SII - bar one tiny thing.

Even when on silent the wrong key press (haven't quite worked out how I do it yet to repeat it) launches the voice app.

Now its very annoying when in a meeting and sending a text and all of a sudden "What would you like to do?" blares out - even tho the damn thing is on silent!

Anyone know how to turn her off for good?

You should be able to disable the app in application manager, one of the first things i did for my S3

Double tapping the home button on the SII activates voice and the feature can be disabled from memory. Might be the same for the SIII. Could also.be set to launch on hearing a phrase.

Nothing you can do on the standard S2 will stop the problem permanently. My advice is you root the phone and then install Gemini App Manager. You can use that app to "freeze" voice so it will never run.

I used method 1, specifically this file

Root_SuperSU.0.95.Only-signed.zip for Chainfire SuperSU (the one that comes with CF_Root) without busybox.

You can undo this root before sending the phone into the manufacturer (via an on-phone app that the root installs), therefore avoiding the warranty issues.

If the phone is running the latest firmware (Android 4.0.3 or 4.0.4) then you don't have to root the phone to "freeze"/disable the app. You should be able to go into Settings > Applications > All, tap on the Voice Command / Vlingo app, and you should see a button at the top right to disable the app. You will get a warning message which you can just accept, and the app will no longer be active.

If you don't have the latest firmware then install the Kies software on your PC, then plug your phone in via the USB cable. Both Vodafone and Telecom have released official updates for phones bought locally. Parallel-imported phones should have updates waiting too.

No disable for me on the latest telecom firmware. I can force stop it, but she just comes back like some bad movie alien bad guy type thing.

And I hate that damn app. The home button is a flakey piece of junk on the S2 and it constantly goes off with a single press of it.

Clear data on it at least gets the disclaimer/license agreement showing instead of that cow talking at me which is slightly better, but the thing is so useless I would really just like it gone.

My S2 is Telecom Latest as well and there was no option to freeze those apps, hence my suggestion.

I hope something works for you though!

I can definitely see the option on Cyanogenmod 10 (open Android 4.1.1), and I'm certain I saw when I was running WanamLite (Samsung Android 4.0.3/4.0.4). The functionality definitely exists in the OS. However, it's very possible that Telecom have disabled it as part of their phone customisations.

The disable option should be available in any 4.x firmware via Settings --> Apps. Not _all_ apps can be disabled though, anything the system regards as a "service" can't be disabled, and I suspect the Vlingo app runs as a service.

There are apps around that'll let you reassign the button press to something else, but I suspect they also need root access.

Check in the Samsung apps store if there's an update for the app, it might add some options to let you reassign or disable the trigger key. The Samsung version is usually far behind the "regular" Vlingo app though. None of the voice-recognition apps can understand me usefully so they're all useless IMO :P
