I bought one from ainol-novo.com (drop shippers with zero support and definitely going no way to RMA the device). My device has some quality issues (won't charge from barrel plug only USB, android browser continually crashes even after upgrde, youtube wouldn't work, flickering backlight, etc). Still an OK device at price point (other buyers have had no problems compared with mine).

I upgraded it to jellybean CyanogenMod 10 from this thread: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/37465-cyanogenmod-10-cmr-6-by-vld/ ... ROM works OK but it definitely is sill nowhere near as smooth as my Galaxy Nexus phone. Advantages of upgrade to CM10 for me are: Chrome browser, YouTube works, now rooted, and most apps install will now install from market because fingerprint changed. Disadvantage is it needs hard-reset regularly after going to sleep (although maybe due to me fiddling with configuration?).

If upgrading to Jellybean:

1. Make sure tablet fully charged beforehand.
2. Use SDcard that is FAT32 formatted.
3.hold volume-down and power-on for 20secs to get into recovery mode (inbuilt if no SDcard inserted).
4. Unzip clockworkmod onto SDcard and CWM will run instead when entering recovery mode using power-on and volume-minus.
5. My device takes a few tries before will go into recovery mode - often it fails.
6. To install Google market I used the AROMA installer from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811028

Any other owners - love to hear what you doing with the Aurora 2!

PS: if using the AROMA installer for Google apps, you can't use touch. Instead use poweron and volume buttons to navigate - awkward but does work.

I installed the Gingerbread/CM10 ROM from this thread: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/38259-rom-cyanogenmod-10-for-aurora-ii/ - using all the linked files which I placed all on the microSD card not where they said to put them (files Elf 2 base ROM, A2 Aurora 2 compatibility overlay, gapps, and ClockworkMod 5.5). The AROMA gapps installer I previously used doesn't work with this ROM.

Works well for me... No problems after using it for a few hours. Apparently with this ROM camera doesn't work (I don't care), and apparently sound can be crackly (although youtube seems to work fine). Still get internet dropouts, but not as bad as original firmware. Tried to get USB OTG working, but even though I changed build.prop to phablet I had no luck (probably I just don't have supported OTG device).

The Micro SD card is mounted at /mnt/external_sd (unlike vl@d's ROM which puts it at /mnt/sdcard and has some unobvious side effects which I disliked).

I still wouldn't recommend an Aurora 2 if you can afford something better.

For the price it is OK (and probably better than other more risky drop-shipped cheapos out there!). The Elf 2 apparently has very similar hardware, but is 10% to 20% cheaper since the Elf 2 doesn't have the IPS LCD display.

Stick to ICS firmware (CM9), the CM10 builds have quite poor performance on many devices from what I've seen.

I stuck CM onto one of the Ainol tablets (don't recall what model) and it worked really well. Build quality was pretty average, but good for the price.
