I have absolutetly no experience with Android and at this stage don't have a clue about versions, editions, compatibility, device capabilities/limitations etc.

So long story short, would this app:
Android NXT Control
work on this device:
Cheap and Cheerful from the Warehouse

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

It looks like the Huawei Ascend Landfire is the Huawei Ascend y100. From a quick google search and finding the only requirement for the app looks to be a bluetooth connection to your nxt controller so in theory yes it should be fine.

Edit: The app requires android 1.6 so almost any android phone out there should be fine.

Have a look at the app here in the Google Play Store

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lego.minddroid&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

It will run on Android 2.1 or greater

The phone you posted a link to has Android 2.3, so yes it will run.

Thanks for the quick responses - and the answers I was hoping for Smile.

I can kill two birds with one stone now - a new phone for the boy and a remote controller for my NXT.

OK, next dumb question. More mobile carrier related than Android but here goes.

My son is currently on 2Degrees, paying his $10 month for 5000 txts. The phone mentioned above is locked to Skinny and their pre-pay packages all run at $4 week. Not much you say, but to a 13 year old who earns about $10 a week this 60% hit is significant.

So next option is this one:
Another cheap Warehouse phone
Assuming this is unlocked ( I will double-check) can it be used on 2Degrees, or does the XT mean it really is restricted to the Telecom network only?

Telecom operates on different frequencies to 2Degrees so it is not a good idea.

Which one did you buy? Any good?

Randomly found this discussion when googling Y100 a friend asked me about.

Last time I recommended a cheap mobile it was an LG P500 which has been going great and really does the business. It does not have any apps installed tho. Touch response is good for a cheap phone but of course nowhere near iPhone levels of accuracy.

Ended up being the Y101 for $89 from the warehouse and we'll switch the young fella to Skinny when his current credit runs out on 2 degrees in a couple of weeks.
So haven't used it as a phone yet but it does the Android thing. Didn't quite suit me because the screen, and hence keyboard input, was too small and the MindDroid application I want to use needs an acceleration sensor which this phone does not have. Damn good value for money for a fairly rich feature Android device though.
It has made me catch the Android bug though and I have since bought a 2nd hand Galaxy Player 5 (WiFi only, no phone) for myself, and have successfully written my first app (if you can call it that, it's the most simple of calculators, but it works), and it's good for the MindDroid application.
