Hi guys,

My current phone is dying, can't take calls, and I really want my next phone to be Android phone.
I know S3 is the best to buy at the moment, but it's really too big for me.

My friend suggests to wait till the new year sales, which means, another 2 month.

I haven't bought I phone in about 5 years, not too sure if the xmas or new year sales would do any difference.

Thanks!

The iphone 5 is marketed to people who want a small phone. But I doubt there will be any on sale even in the boxing day sales. Dick Smiths recently had 20% off many smartphones 2 weekends ago where they were selling the s3 unlocked for $688, and I suspect there will be others that will have sales soon.Android phones do tend to be larger screen sizes. There is the samsung s3 mini that is coming out for smaller hands. I find the s3 to be a good size. I wouldn';t say it feels to big, and I can control it all from the same hand, but my hands are larger than normal.

If you like a reasonable large screen with a slightly dumbed down specs then there is the G600 from Telecom

While the S3 is undoubtedly 'better', the Galaxy S2 is still a great phone, and can be had for around $550 at the moment.

I guess it depends how well you can sleep at night, knowing you've bought 'old' tech

S2 lacks nothing ... $500 from many e-tailers

if you're worried about size this thing is nearly as small as an iphone 5 just as light but with inferior and inaccurate screen, but ... oh well :) so what

So, the question is: will boxing bring any decent discounts on phones?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

The big physical retailers MAY have discounts, but as they often start out as the more expensive option... you may as well just use Pricespy now & get the cheapest deal going on.

The only reason I might wait (but only for a few days... is already announced) is to get the Nexus 4 which is an amazing deal.

the nokia lumia 800 (windows phone) for $339 (xt) or $339 (vf/ed) is a steal at the warehouse right now. its been superceded by the new windows 8 phones, but its still a great device.

I would just say look for one of the weekend sales. You may not get quite as good of a deal, but it won't be far off new years pricing. Retailers need to move stock.

I just bought a g300 (which is ok, but spend more and get a better phone if you can) from warehouse stationary for $250, but when I went to Noel Leeming and said I had seen the warehouse stationary deal, they priced one down to $230 from their $300 list price for me. Only reason I didn't get one from them was they had no stock in any of their stores. Look at one you like and don't be afraid to ask if they can do a better price.

This is also a decent phone for a decent price :) Besides the OS is upgradable to Android 4.0

Including courier cost you are looking around $310 and there are three colors to choose from: black, yellow and White; memory is also upgradable to 32gb with micro sd card

Besides this Sony smart phone is made for excellent water/dust/shake proof. Check this video out:

Quite good value for money.

Sometimes you can get better deals by shopping around and asking hte retailer to match prices, than you will ever get in a boxing day sale. Most of the really good boxing day sale products tend to be limited in numbers, just to get people through the door, and they run out very quickly.

In the last 3 years the best deals i got were in the days to weeks leading to christmas. By boxing day even the sales have burnt out
