As per the subject, my better half's P500 won't turn off or lock automatically any more. It stays unlocked indefinitely with the screen on.  Even if I use the button to lock it, after a while the screen will light back up on the unlock screen and then not dim.  Obviously this is killing the battery very quickly so not ideal.

What I've tried so far:

* Checked the screen timeout in settings and put it right down to 15 seconds
* turned phone off, left it for a while, then turned back on
* taken the battery out, left it for a while then replaced and turned back on
* tried killing apps in "Running Services" one by one and none of them seem to be the culprit
* Uninstalled the only app she's installed recently (some facebook messenger app)

But it still does it. Any more suggestions to try?

I have a P500, too, so interested in the solution in case mine goes wonky in the future!

You've done all the things I would have tried. The next things get more and more drastic like factory data reset and reload OS. Hope there is a less drastic solution for you.

Good luck.

Just realised the thread title is wrong. Should read:

"LG P500 - Screen won't turn off automatically and turns itself on"

@linw: Thanks, yeah, looks like I might need to try a factory reset next. Failing that maybe a custom rom...

Are you into custom ROMs? Mine is on the XT network - bit worried about ending up with something that no longer connected!

Actually, the biggest nuisance with mine is the constant running low on internal storage. There is just too little of it and we should be spared having to go through the unsatisfactory tweaks to stop the nagging for a week or two. All apps are on the SD card so there is little I can do about it. Trying to find a good solution for this bit haven't found anything acceptable yet.

Perhaps try leaving it in airplane mode to see if it is linked to something accessing the network? Most likely to be an app I would have thought.

The P500 is a massive pain to put a custom firmware onto, largely dependant on what is already on it - not for the faint of heart. I've done 2 of them, one was merely time consuming, the other was a total b@stard.

Get a can of compressed air and blow it into the USB connector, the g/f's was doing the same thing and that fixed it.
