Hi I want to start to push gmail to my android 4.1.2 ...

unfortunately gmail 4.2 there is only ONE option available in the entire app - sync on, sync off nothing else! How apple!

Do earlier versions of gmail allow you to choose push email and not sync anything else?

If yes, anyone knows which versions (so i can google the apk for)?

tried 2.3.6 2.3.4 on the android jelly bean ... no option to push ... i guess the push option depends on the android version?

Given the sync options are not just for Gmail, I suspect changing the gmail apk wont do squat. And the options are likely tied into the mail OS build itself

Suspect the gmail apk will just be the separate reader app outside of the normal google 'mail' app.

Hi,

I've currently got JB 4.2 running on my Galaxy S I9000, and I have this set of options available:

Settings / Accounts / Google / Tap Email Address

Do you not have something similar?  You can switch off each individual item; so in your case, you should be able to set "gmail" sync only.

And what happens if you tap your email address on that last screen?

Try enabling sync for it first.

edit: Samsung Stock 4.1.2 on my S3 and the selective sync menu is available.
