DarkShadow: Not much point, seeing the new N7 is rumored to be US$149

Any ETA on that? Given the price of the old N7, I guess this will be $400 / $450 here?!
jesterz: Hi all,
I see the latest pricing from HP is now starting at $299 which is probably pushing it for the specs of the device.

jesterz: I'm now thinking of rolling the dice and trying a Chinese cheapie ... like the Ainol Novo 7 Fire/Flame. Good specs, good price, variable build quality.
Common sense is not as common as you think.

the build quality has improved considerably over the older models, i just bought my 2nd Ainol, the venus model landed for well under $200 and it feels and looks great. The first one i have had for 6 months and it has never giving me trouble and i now have 2 high spec 7" tablets for under $400.

Very interested to hear that. At the risk of derailing my own thread, the Ainol appears to be the 'best' of the Chinese manufacturers and certainly has more specs for the $ than the Slate7 will be offering.
Where did you buy yours from?

lokhor: I was actually considering this at $229, but at $299 it's definitely not worth buying.
Just thought i'd add that $169 USD = ~$200 NZD + GST = $230 NZD so $229 would be fair pricing. Why do we always get gouged when it comes to prices here?
