I live in the country and I have no broadband internet or cell phone reception.
The Rural Broadband Initiative scheme is no good as I cannot receive Cellphone signal.
The normal phone line is affected by electric fences. There is a waiting list with 10 people on it for broadband connection...but my noisey line wont work too well anyway.
Therefore I am forced to go to Satellite Broadband and just putup with the crackly phone line for local calls.

Is there an APP for my Galaxy S android that I can connect to my home PC via WiFi that will allow me to send and receive text messages thru the internet via Satellite?

I have "Whatsapp" but I want someway of texting or receiving texts from anyone and not just subscibers to that App.

Is there a App that may help me? Or some setup else where?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi not to sure on what app advise to give, but can say that electric fence noise on a phone line is bad for voice but typically does not impact DSL so much, distance does though.

I think we need to breakdown things here. From your post you want TWO things:

1.Connect Smartphone to PC via WiFi to access Internet
2.App to send SMS from this connection

Is that right?

1.Does your PC have a WiFi adapter (is it a laptop with WiFi already built-in or a desktop with a WiFi card)?

If you don't have these then you can't connect your smartphone. If you do have these, look at Connectify to create a sharing hotspot other devices can use.

Once you do this then your smartphone will have access to the Internet then you can look at #2.

Thanks to all for your replies:

I have Satellite Broadband.

And YES as Below I want to:

1. Connect Smartphone to PC via WiFi to access Internet
2. App to send SMS from this connection and receive SMS via internet connection.

And to UBER GEEK
I have Vodafone homeline. 363 metres of buried phone line, there's an earth fault and the electric fence clicks make it unbearable to talk fora long time...perhaps Chorus would like to come out again and see what they can do..!!

Neighbours are dialup and couple others are satellite and Broadband. however we are separated by a few kms.!!

Thank you
