My daughter has just got a Galaxy original Mini and her contacts are misbehaving.
I've tried everything I can think of eg turning on Google account contacts, going to CONTACTS app and selecting custom/SIM and various other options, even setting SIM as default contacts list. Contacts is set to display all without any filters on. Her SIM has contacts as she had it working on another Android prior to buying this one. Checked Google Sync and Data settings as well although these should not have any effect if CONTACTS is set to SIM.
The Samsung app is called CONTACTS and my Android Samsung clone is called PEOPLE on my 4.1 Droid and settings are a little different.
Any suggestions?? My feeling is that the Galaxy Mini may have a hardware error in being unable to read the SIM.
Thanks vm.
Alistair.

if you go into contacts then there should be a display option, under there you need to tick sim contacts

I haven't used a mini for a while so have a poke around but you should find it, had a friend have a similar issue the other day with an lg p500

My daughter has a Galaxy mini so I had a look at hers.

(Also I am assuming that the SIM still works for phone calls and texts.)

Its not clear to me from your message just how you have tried to set the Contacts up.  My daughter has an option in her "contacts" app to import from the SIM card which I assume you have tried.  If so do you get an error message?

If you do or if that is not working then I would try setting up a new contact in "Contacts" and exporting it to the SIM and then delete it from contacts and see if you can import it.  If you can't then as you say it is probably a hardware issue.

The other way to do it is try the SIM in another phone but that will be a pain to do.

If she just got the phone then hopefully she could return it?

Hopefully this is helpful.

Cheers

Hi most useful comments. SIM still works yes. She tried to import and that did not work. I tried the SIM in another phone and it worked fine.

Ive just tried this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compelson.optimizer

And the app displays 'there are no editable contacts on the SIM' and terminates.
I've also replaced her SIM with my own and there is no change - still contacts not visible.
This is a valid proof that the hardware of the phone is not working properly.

I feel sorry for Melissa as its her 2nd Android, the first being a 2degrees Android by Alcatel which kept resetting so she returned that for a refund. Now this new Samsung has issues. She really likes the Samsung and does not want to return it and lose another phone for a few weeks so hopefully Hitech the suppliers will help her out.
Thanks vm.
Alistair
