I couldn't do without Swype, I see it's up on Google play now for NZ$1.18
Might buy it, I am running the beta so not sure if it's necessary, but just wanting to guarantee it for future devices.

You can buy it and not install it.
You'll have to uninstall the beta.
I just bought it and installed on my nexus 7. Lost my dictionary and it still hasn't synced with my other devices yet (2 hours after forcing sync.... annoying).

I guess their syncing servers might be overloaded with everyone DL'ing and syncing while its on sale

Isn't Swype largely redundant now that the built in android keyboard can do the same.

I'm not sure, I haven't used that one but I have tried Swiftkey and used SlideIt for a while but prefer Swype. Funny, I just checked my S2 (CM10.1) and sure enough it's there, not sure how long it's been there for? Might try it to see how it compares, but certainly there is a difference between the various implementations so hopefully the Android one has got it right.

The built in Android one has been around since ICS, I don't think it's quite as good as Swype, but it's close

I find the built in one absolutely horrible!

I wouldn't exactly say "... the same". There are several Android keyboards that cater for word swiping but they all implement it slightly differently. Those slight differences are what made the final decision for me. I have tried the default Samsung keyboard, Swiftkey Flow, and SlideIt (I think? perhaps one or two others too) but each of them has quirks I could not adapt to. I find myself returning to Swype each time :)

I had both Swype from Google Play and Swype Beta installed with no problems - not sure why one would want to keep both though. I uninstalled Beta a couple of days later.
