So, I got the latest and greatest Galaxy today from 2degrees, but I've got a problem - there is no notification sound on SMS.  It doesn't matter if I turn sound off and on; the speaker works; notifications happen for other things (gChat, for instance), just nothing for SMS (vibrate works if I turn it on).

Any one else having this problem?

there is an S4 owners thread that may get you a quicker answer

Have you checked the settings in the messaging app or just in the system settings, also need to check that you have the volume slider up for notifications.

Yup checked all that.  This ain't my first Galaxy..

Where is this S4 owners forum you speak of?  I've not found one and it's not for trying.
Or are you saying I should sign up to yet another site that I'll probably only use once?  (Ie, it's not here?)

Is it the default SMS program that came with phone or have you installed another one?

Hmm..    Thread.  With 31 pages already.   Sounds like a way to waste an evening!  (I browsed that first; it's full of people drooling and salivating, and whining about being on back order...)

Default.  I'm going to try a factory reset, but given the thing is brand new today, I don't really see what difference that'll make.

are you having a bad day!

I suggested the thread as it is the S4 owners thread regardless of what is in it and if every time someone has a glitch they started up a new thread it would be chaos on here trying to keep up.

Maybe having a samsung forum as well as an android one. considering how popular they are. These s2, s3 and s4 threads get huge and unusable in terms of finding any useful information on them.

Memo to self (and to others) - unlike the S2 and S3, the S4 factory reset nukes user data too.

Incidentally, the SMS has notification sounds.

Guys, chill out before you end up getting a warning/banned.

Does that mean you resolved the issue?

in the past - S&^% happens aye

today - Samsung happens!

glad you fixed it but interesting to know it deletes everything - probably coz the data is now saved in internal SD rather than application partition like in the s2 that I have :p

Spent many frustrating hours on the phone w/tech experts...only suggestion they had was to do a factory reset...was not acceptable to me. Only had phone for 1 week ; [ I finally think I figured it out. Go to applications. Find Auto Text Reply App. Uninstall it. I NOW HAVE SOUND W/INCOMING TEXT ;) Good Luck. Hope this works for u ;)
