We are thinking of giving our old Galaxy S1 to a friend who is currently on telecom. Will the old vodafone S1 work on the current telecom network? Thanks in advance

No, I don't think so. I believe the Galaxy S for Vodafone does not support UMTS/WCDMA 850MHz, so it is incompatible with the Telecom network.

Visit the Telecom phone compatibility checker and enter the IMEI. Most likely it's not compatible but at least you know where to check if needed again.

Correct. You would be able to get reception in very limited urban areas on 2100MHz but outside of those small areas it would not work.
