Number1 Son just picked up one of these on clearance. He's avidly reading the safety warnings at the moment. I'll get a review out of him as he uses his first touch phone

Housewife computerer: not particularly great at either.

What sort of price do they go for on clearance now? I remember getting very excited about it prior to release, must've been over 2 years ago

Loved my X5, was a great step up from my first Android phone!

He got it for $120, and it's his first android, first nonkeypad phone.

That's awesome value - I paid over $500! I'm sure he'll be very happy with it

What a strange 19 year old, reading safety warnings?! What is this!

Make sure you get him into the custom ROM scene - that phone is much better when you use the rom from dzo (who is from nz!). android 4.0 is much better than the 2.3 stock. I think there are newer roms in development too.

I suggest you be careful with the back, the tabs holding the battery cover wear down easily, and the screen on them cracks fairly easily too.

I have one cracked one and one dead one of these phones sitting on my desk.

Where did he buy it from?

Thanks for all the tips guys! I'll be reading up on the rom too

He got it from Warehouse Stationery - they did an online only sale on Thursday I think. We get their email newsletters. Not sure if they're still running it, but there was one I wanted but even at about the 2/3 off price I can't justify it.

Which really means I need to find a nice way to earn some money myself ;)

thats a good price. The main issue I had with that phone was battery life tbh.

I use an X5 as my backup phone/secondary phone when travelling. It's a good couple of years old now but works well.

I used it early this year for a couple of weeks after sending my S3 away for repair. It's no S3, but it did a damn good job in the interim.

All very encouraging, and he might sign up here at GZ ;)

He's delighted that all he needed to do was move his contacts to sim, then put the sim and microsd into the new phone ;)

One actual comment was "weird way to slot the sim in - it's sideways!"

Get him to move his contacts to his google account. That way, if something happens to his phone/SIM, his contacts are synced to Google always

I thought DZO had dropped development for the Ideos or I'd have kept mine for backup?

Aurora ICS for the X5 was never stable enough for me to keep it. Back on GB now.

Wifi issues were the biggest problem.
