Anyone use it?  I have a few uses, like sync Outlook contacts and calendar, still prefer POP email b/c I don't use that much devices and it is quick, can't see myself having yrs of archived emails online.

But ... I used my LG software and did a restore of a backup I made.  It gives me the error 494 so I cannot install any apps until I do a phone reset.  Phone's settings are no that useful, but I lose my SMS history.  I've tried the net's solution - clearning the cache of Google Play doesn't help.

So maybe I will use the suite software just to sync contacts/calendar and not the system stuff.  Do any of you guys use the phone's s suite software?

Lol, so you're going to use the software that screwed your phone up to back up your contacts & messages?
Good luck with that.
I don't have any phone software on my PC at all (other than what's required to flash new ROMs) I certainly wouldn't use any of it to do backups.

There's an app in the play store called "SMS backup and restore". I'd use that if you don't want to root.
And google has my contacts.

Hi, same here as blakamin, Google keeps all my contacts and email. But staying with pop and syncing contacts to a PC that will eventually fail highlights a failing of your odd preference to stay with antiquated pop services.

just outlook contact and calendar cos that works for now. I now have my phones contacts via Google. yeah I couldn't install or update any apps then...... thanks for that app advise, my SMS history now wiped, with the blocked access to update/install apps - I got my prev phones contact back at least syched to google now the simcard was way out of date.

i  might try out its category backup which is just the phone's own contacts / calendar / messages.
i know the outlook contact / calendar works but i don't use contacts anymore b/c if there is a diff in outlook to the phone's or google contacts you gets duplicates.

the phone's normal backup didn't work, that did phone's settings, apps and all ....actually the unlock phone pattern was enabled upon restore but any combination could unlock it ........

PC?  I have plenty of backups.  I just enjoy Outlook b/c it's quick when its on the local HD and doesn't need to sync with IMAP server.  Easier to organise the same stuff in one area and look backd a few yrs .... But I have 2 HDDs in the PC, each backs up to each other using free space.  I have a 3rd external drive and thinking of of one for the bank deposit box like photographs eg today's 24MP files.  for mor impt stuff and PST files Sky Drive and G Drive. Laughing

Edit.  It doesn't do messages, LOL.  Unless I use the buggy entire backup.  But if I use that I get them all back then I have no way to install an app or what to fix the error 492...... they're only SMS.

Personally, I don't care if I lose my SMS's... Most are just to the Mrs.

They're backed up by titanium anyway. ;-P

SMS isn't too important .. many of my friends use IM apps now anyway. Thanks I will check that Google SMS backup app Hopefully it syncs by itself too Laughing

But again my backup I created was 3 months out anyway .... so even if I could .....

But this is a huge responsibility to the Cloud providers, what happens if they manage to stuff up......

Then my android phone will only be good for phone calls.
Google aren't facebook... I can't see them disappearing any time soon.
And I have my contacts on my nexus7 as well. ;-p

You could try Thunderbird with IMAP for mail sync or POP if you so prefer and the Lightning extension for calendar. You can then use Gcontactsync to sync google contacts and Provider to sync your Google calendar. You can make it a 1 way sync I think for contacts too so the contacts are always on your computer and deletes on the phone or google don't affect the computer copy.

Cheers - the Outlook contacts isn't that important. Emails are becoming less used now with IM apps. Maybe I could alter my Outlook contacts so they are like .. the phone's or Googles.

I have tried Thunderbird briefly. IMAP was a bit quicker than Outlook but I use Gmail for my Interne email now. Only have my ISP POP email for personal use. Thunderbird seems like Outlook Express. I preferred the more professoinal look of Outlook but I think it is just about when I move onto webmail perhaps esp since now MS Outlook are undergoing changes after each edition and my ISP email is from Clear Net - should they discontinue dialup up, b/c I have only kept it by moving on a hourly based dialup plan but I haven't logged on just kept the email address.
