So HTC have just announced the HTC One Mini which is basically a miniature version of the HTC One with less features. IMO it looks quite nice as a mid-range handset.
There isn't any word on the pricing, although it is supposed to be cheaper than the HTC One (obviously)

How it differs:
-4.3" 720p screen instead of 4.7" 1080p
-Snapdragon 400 1.4GHz vs Snapdragon 600 1.6GHz
-1GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
-1800mAh battery vs 2300mAh
-16GB storage (non-expandable)
-No IR Blaster
-No NFC
-No Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on the 4 Ultrapixel camera

What hasn't changed:

-Android 4.2.2 with the same Sense UI
-Boomsound - dual front facing speakers
-Same aluminium design
-still has LTE

It's not very mini. It looks way bigger than S4 mini in comparative photos.

It probably is bigger, it also has a much higher resolution screen - 1280x720 vs 960x540

I don't really see the point in these 'mini'phones its not like they are priced in line with the features, or lack of. If it was just physical size change I could understand why some would want that but they cut everything down and price only drops by sod all.

I think Samsung did a better job with their mini. I don't see why you would get the HTC One Mini over the HTC One, for only 0.5cm size reduction.

I've just been in the store. The mini phones fit in your pocket better, and are more practical than the say the massive S3/S4 for general use. The Experia Z didn't fit completely in my jeans pocket, but the SP did. Same with Galaxy S3/S4 didn't, mini did.

Agree given the smaller size and lower specs they're still not cheap.

How do you know the HTC One Mini will not be cheap? It's not even for sale in NZ yet.

And on that note, does anyone have any idea when it might be available in NZ? I'm hoping it comes to telecom so I can score it to replace my Defy.

How do you know the HTC One Mini will not be cheap? It's not even for sale in NZ yet.

I'm speaking generally, S4 mini, Xperia SP, not One Mini.

(Bump) Just wondering if anyone has info or educated guesses on availability of this phone in NZ.

I'm likely to get a new phone within the next month or two, but reluctant to buy something until I've had a chance to see one of these. The lower specs than the HTC One don't bother me (as long as the comparative price is reasonable) and I think I'd probably prefer something closer to 6 than 7 cm in width, so there is a fair chance the HTC One mini is what I'd buy if/when available.

Judging by the Galaxy S4 Mini price I am thinking it will be at least $800

for what you get they are usually too expensive but if you have the spare cash and want a smaller phone go for it.
