Hi, my Father has an S3 - it has this Globe icon that he can use for accessing the internet (at home via wifi).

But lately when he hits this it trys going to tomizone.  I assume he's tried connecting to a hotspot at some point but it seems to have taken over either a home page or something else.

I'm not to up on android phones, but I couldn't see or find anything about how a home page is set, and I did manage to navigate him to the wifi settings to look for a proxy server.  The proxy was non.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you able to enter a URL in the browser and navigate to it, or does it keep going back to Tomizone? Pull down from the top of the page and you will see tabs icon. Tap that and close all tabs. and see if that helps - perhaps just reloading the last tab used.

Also, open Settings | WiFi and check what access point it is connected to - perhaps there's a Tomizone AP nearby and it's trying to use it?

Using the "google search" (blue background, lower case g) he was able to get to trademe.  Using chrome seemed to be ok (is chrome seperate from "internet" I would have expected them to be the same thing).

He's connected to his home wifi - he read that out to me when we were looking for the proxy.

It's a telecom supplied S3 as well if that helps.

"Internet" is the Android stock browser. Chrome is another browser... Both browsers. Perhaps, as indicated above, the default browser just got "lost".

The clearing of the cache data seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks.

@freitasm, I was assuming that Android, being written by Google, would have a default browser of Chrome. I take it this isn't the case?

ROFL. LOL!!!!! PWNED.

Seriously, do you think Google would be that clever?

Reality is, they're separate projects. Android wasn't always 100% Google and each OEM can do whatever they want with the platform at some point.

This is different from Google Chrome OS, which is a Google project end to end.
