Curious if anyone knows why the trademe app update today requires the "directly call phone numbers" permission. I've sent feedback to trademe asking, but anyone have any idea?

Probably so that it can initiate calls from numbers found in the listings.

Its a handy function for calling business that have phone numbers in their adds like real estate agents and car dealers. It means you don't have to write down a number close the app and then ring the number

Without the permission they can still send the phone number to the dialer, the user just has to hit the "call" button. I guess automation is good, and I'll probably update since trademe is relatively trusted.

I note there is available a update of the Trademe up which removes this permission. As suggested above hitting a number on trademe will send to the dialler. Sounds like trademe are listening to feedback.

Also curious as to why the Samsung TVNZ ON demand app wants permission to take photos and videos without your permission.
