Hey.

Any one else think that the s4 battery life isnt that great particularly since the latest Telecom BMG4 update that came out this month?

It just seems to drop down really fast

Here's some screenshots

These ones were taken after from 100% then using it for a couple of hours before i went to sleep and then a couple of hours in the morning

What are peoples thoughts. I did a factory reset since then and doesnt seem much different. Maybe will do another one

How many charge/discharge cycles have you been through? Run it to shutdown and then do a full charge a couple of times, then just use as per normal. Battery stats will sort themselves out.

That's saying you have the screen on a lot. It a big bright high resolution screen, yes if you use it a lot you'll not get great battery life. I find my stock (rooted) i9505 battery will last two days of moderate use or three days of light use, but I charge it most days anyway.

Get BetterBatteryStats (green battery with an orange +) from the market, or free download from xdadevelopers for members. I also have Llama set to turn my phone to airplane mode at night, then back on in the morning. I keep GPS, data, WiFi, bluetooth off unless I need them, which isn't that often. You'll need root to do this, but it's super easy to do.

I charge at night, so my battery's full in the morning. I listen to streaming music for 4-5 hours a day at work, my battery is generally at 50% by the end of the day. If I don't use data much I can get 3 days out of the phone.

Do you have the screen on almost constantly? Heh. I can comfortably get 2, sometimes 3 days out of mine, and I use it a fair bit, with wifi & 3g on all the time, 3 mail accounts syncing, use it for music etc.

a week or so back I put a post of the same thing. What worked for me was full factory reset. I now easily get 2 days out of the battery and that is with screen on almost full brightness. Only time I use automatic brightness is outside. Dont know why but outside on automatic brightness the screen goes brighter than manual 100% brightness

I find I have to go to manual brightness indoors as it's pretty dim otherwise. I keep "power saving" turned on. Outdoors it works ok.

ummm your screen time was 77% of your usage so work that out of your 8 hours and that is pretty massive on screen time. What are your expectations

I find the samsung auto screen brightness doesn't work well at all. I purchased lux auto brightness and it works very well. It keeps you screen at the optimum for visibility vs battery drain

I use that on my tablet and it works ok, but it can be a bit random as well. I might try it on the phone.

its not really the same as he has over 6 hours screen time so I would be bragging about that not complaining.

Two days is relevant really to you only as we all use the device differently so hard to make any comparison.

You make a good point with the Auto brightness and it seems to be an issue that should be fixed but I have read that they do that so people don't have it at full brightness which sort of makes sense. Either way its not a good screen for bright sunshine in my opinion.

I just ordered this wireless charging kit for my S4, it should arrive in a week or two. It might be a good solution for someone who uses their phone a lot but regularly sits at a desk during the day. It'd keep it topped up reasonably well I think. I just bought it because it sounds like a handy toy. NZ$105 shipped, from memory, for the 0.5mm thick version with full NFC support.

ok so then 4 hours plus? still very good for a big phone but I spose its subjective.

try CPU spy to see if its going into deep sleep also betterybattery stats.

Without the OP showing us the actual screen time, this thread is pretty much pointless I'm afraid. Bars at the bottom mean sweet FA, as does the percentage.
What "use" is the screen getting? gaming? browsing? watching videos/youtube?

True. It is saying that you charged your battery 8 hours ago, and since then 77% of the power has been consumed by the screen. What do you use your phone for? Lots of games, or reading books?

Battery life will go up as your phone turns from a toy to a tool and you play with it less. You can always get a battery pack case that can double or triple runtime, making it quite a lot larger of course.
