Hi Guys ,
I run a samsung tab 10.1 { bought it Jan last year } it has ICS installed and is NOT rooted , Im wanting to upgrade to a new samsung galaxy Note 8" but I want to take a game with me that I have paid some money for and Im at a certain level that i dont want to lose .I have tried using Helium to back up all my apps and data but it just wont work { ie the app or desktop just hang and cant connect to each other } I know Google back up your apps under your account and you can see that when you log in to google online and go to the play store but it wont back up game data .is there anyway I can back up the game data without loosing anything when I install the game onto the new device ? All options are greatly received .

Helium is about the only app that doesn't require root to backup app data.

The desktop connect is a oneoff thing to get it to work.

Trying uninstalling the drivers on your PC for the Tab and install the ClockworkMod Universal ADB drivers. Also make sure you have USB debugging enabled on your Tab (Settings > Dev options).

Thanks Brad , have tried this and still no joy I start both the PC and Droid apps connect the device via USB ,I have the USB debugging ticked and then Helium asks me to change to camera device rather than media which I do and then the droid app just sits there hanging and still wont connect to the desktop software .

More than a year old, so no warranty? Why not just root and be done with it?

Im hoping to sell my old tab after I upgrade and would prefer to sell it untouched, but I am interested on how i might go about rooting it is there a step by step guide to it?
