My daughter has been using this unit for some months with virtually no problems.

However, when trying to set up the included email client (she previously used web-based email and Facebook etc), I keep getting an "incorrect username or password" error message ... and I know full well that both are perfectly correct

Anyone got a bright idea as to why this is happening?

Cheers,

Which email provider does your daughter use?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Try using another mail client such as K9 Mail.

We tried Gmail and Clearnet ... tried both my accounts and hers ... no go for either.

Older accounts with some providers may still use a different login for POP3/IMAP access than for webmail. If it is an ISP-provided POP account, can you check the username/password through another mail client? Chances of the android client failing to pass the credentials correctly are slim to none. Ports and server names all correct etc?

Yes, double-checked that POP settings and ports all correct etc ... works fine on PC's and laptops using Outlook.

As I say, it seems to connect but balks at the usernam/password phase.

Does the Nextbook not have the Gmail email app? If not, just check the server settings are correct. Ports are important with most providers incl Gmail. You might need to try a Google search for others with the Nextbook who may have overcome any issues.

UPDATE: Not sure why, but got it working now.

Went through settings again afresh, checked with Gmail online for port numbers etc, and bingo away we went! Damn sure it was all the same as last dozen tries, but there we go ... maybe fat fingers and touchscreens .. ha ha ha.

Thanks to all,

R.
