Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini
Microsoft Exchange 2010

With no data connection active I made a change to one contact in outlook, and I made a change to a different contact in my phone.  When i activated a data connection and sync'd my contacts, the changes made to contact 'A' in outlook came accross to my contacts on my phone, so contact 'A' was updated with the changes.  Contact 'B' which was on the server and on the phone, when sync'd it overwrote the changes I made on the phone to match what was on the server.

Why is it not a 2 way sync, picking up the most recent change?

Also I have identified at least one contact that shows on the phone but not in outlook.

Could you not have bundled all of these 5 threads relating to 1 new device purchase into a "Help with new Android phone" thread?

There are a number of reasons for this to happen.

You have set up the exchange account as pop3 or IMAP and not true exchange.
You aren't actually using exchange.. (or the over ruling device is set to exchange only)
You do not have corporate contacts displayed and you are editing the local accounts on the phone which do not sync.. they are separate groups of contacts from gmail/sim contacts

Possibly would be easier to follow for me, but each one asks a different question which I assume would attract a different audience, and I also thought it keeps the thread about the topic question.

I set it up as a Microsoft Exchange Active Sync account

I am using Microsft Exchange 2010 - I dont know which set of contacts overrules the other, but I assuming based on experience that the server overrules the phone except on one contact, as when I click to display exchange contacts only and compare the number with outlook the number is the same, but 1 contact is missing.

I am editing the one with the exchange logo displayed at the end of the name.
