hey guys,

ive recently gotten a WD Passport Ultra 1tb, Ive partitioned it FAT32/NTFS,

Im wanting to be able to use it on 2 of my android devices - Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 & Note II (both STD - NOT rooted)

I seem to be finding the same thing online, the devices wont access the HDD unless the devices have been rooted.... I wondered by chance if anyone had found a way around this?

I dont want to 'root' my devices. All my other HDD's are FAT32 so this is the first time with this issue.
I only partitioned this one as I have a few large movie files over 4GB

hoping someone might have come across an app or fix on this without the 'root'

cheers!

Partitioned fails on many devices unfortunatly. Doesnt help that exfat is so badly supported as well. At least it is mandatory with SDXC cards so support is getting better. I hate NTFS for file exchaning drives since permissions often seem to end up carrying across, and people you give the drive to find some folders will not open without the whole take ownership exercise.

the partition hasn't failed, the drive is brand new & functions on media players & my pc perfectly.

Its Android where the issue is.

I never said it had failed, I said it fails.

I think its an issue with Android rather than the drive

It's not really an issue, it was never designed for use with partitioned drives.

It's probably seeing the NTFS partition and ditching it altogether as most Android versions don't understand NTFS. Many rooted releases have NTFS modules inserted.

It is an issue for me. but have got working. appears to have been a power issue rather than device issue
