I'm keen to get some apps (Chromecast and Netflix) onto my HTC One that are only available on the US Play Store. These currently show up as 'not available in your country'.

Is it possible to change the country setting like you can on iOS, without rooting the phone? I have spent some time googling this and there are some weird and wonderful solutions but none of them seem to work.

I have set up a new google/gmail account on the phone for this purpose and I am running UnblockUS VPN on our router.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I think Google check the country of the SIM card so VPN etc. won't help. That being said, it's not hard to find the Netflix apk and sideload it.

Use a VPN, make a new google account choosing US as the country, I made mine with US on the end of the name for that purpose.

Once made, add the account to your device and set it the default in play store (also over the VPN) and download something free so the device will show up.

from that point you can use the play store on the web either with or without VPN to log into that google account and add the app to your device. Browsing on the device needs the VPN up I found.

Thanks but did all that and I still get "This app not available in your country". Somehow it still knows I am in NZ - probably via the SIM card?

Many thanks Laurence - sideloading worked a treat. Downloaded apk's for Chromecast and Netflix directly to the phone. Live and learn something every day.

Hmm, it installed just fine for me on mine just using the web play store from a desktop PC even when there was the 2degrees sim in the phone.
