Hi there

I'm in the market to replace my old Xperia Pro (sooooo slow!) with something fast but affordable. I had started looking at the Chinese guri brands to get a decent bang for buck, and have read many, many threads here on the topic. The problems of choosing one such model seems legend - finding the right specs is hard enough (few are fully compatible with 2 degrees), let alone finding a quality model from a reputable retailer...

I've looked at some of the lower-level Huawei devices, and they seem to offer really good bang for the buck - my sister just bought a Y300 (many sellers have promised her it will work fully on 2 degrees - a thread on GZ doesn't seem to support this), and it's excellent value - $160 for a 4" dual core phone. $300 would get me a Huawei G510, but that's a decent amount more money for not much more than a larger screen.

So... with a bit of searching I came across the Huawei G700, which seems to be a very new release. I've copied the specs below - I've found it for just over $300 ($NZ) including free shipping on Amazon (from a Chinese supplier) here.

I'd welcome anyone's thoughts on this phone, especially its value for money (which seems great, from my view - ok resolution screen at 720, does 900MHz for 3G, decent amount of RAM and ROM etc... ).

Or, if there are any recommendations for other phones at a price point no higher (ie $300), that would be fantastic - even if they're non-mainstream Chinese models (ie, specific models people have purchased and have had good experiences with).

Many thanks in advance.

Ok, will reply to my own post!

Is anyone with some knowledge in the area able to give me some feedback on this Huawei G700 model, even if it's just based on a purusal of the specs and an assessment of these relative to the price ($325sh)?

I'm keen on ordering this but don't want to stump up over $300, only for it to become apparent I'd have been better finding another $150 to get something like an S3.

Any thoughts and feedback much appreciated!

Cheers
Jonathan

Yes it looks like a reasonably good phone, should work well with 2 degrees/vodafone (not skinny/xtra). Seems like good value, being only $300 incl postage means you will not get charged gst.

Here are some other chinese phones
