I've wanted to do this for a while now, but never having rooted or done anything like that to my device I'm really nervous about doing any of the steps to install Cyanogen Mod. Or any other mod that is a stock-like Android experience. So I'm currently using an HTC One that I bought from my local Telecom store, and I'm starting to really want a stock experience. And according to the Cyanogen mod website Cyanogen mod does just that. The issue I've been having is how to root my device, how to install Cyanogen mod and how to get it all setup. One of the main problems is finding the right ROM, I've been searching however all of the devices are according to American Carriers. So I'm asking you guys to assist me in making the leap of faith, to get to the beautiful
paradise. Thank you :)

Go on spend some time on XDA forums, it is the be all and end all knowledgebase for what you want to do...

Also research Google Play Edition, I am running this on my HTC One, gives me the pure Google experience with none of the usual issues of custom roms

Installing Cyanogen is relatively painless, just takes a bit of time.

First off you will need to unlock your bootloader which will completely wipe your device including the internal storage. Make sure you backup everything to your PC first. Use an app like G Cloud or SMS Backup and restore for text messages etc.

To unlock your bootloader, follow the instructions at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ (select All Other Supported Models).

You will then need to flash a new recovery via Fastboot, instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173863

You then will need to download CyanogenMod from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=m7ul Either get the stable 4.2.2 based CM 10.1.3 or the latest nightly 4.3 based CM 10.2. You will need to get the latest Gapps package from http://www.goo.im/gapps make sure you match it to the Android version 4.2.2 or 4.3.

You will need to partially set up your device again so you can copy the files to the internal storage (just skip through all the set up steps). You can use ADB sideload in recovery but if this is your first time rooting and using a custom ROM then you're better off going this way.

Once you've got the CM and Gapps zip files on your phone, reboot into recovery. Factory reset and then choose the install from zip option to flash CM then Gapps and restart.

I'd honestly recommend do not attempt it unless if you fully understand how to go back or restore from a bad flash without the help from others. The thing is, once you've got past the stage of unlocking the bootloader you're on your own, you simply can't send the phone back to be reflashed as this theoretically voids the warranty.

If I was you, based on your level of understanding I wouldn't go messing around with something you don't need to mess around with. You have a functional phone now and with a different home screen launcher like Nova Launcher I feel you're able to experience pretty-much AOSP on the HTC One.

If you're going to take the plunge, read and understand the guides on XDA and make sure you've got both ADB and Fastboot set up and know how to use them, it also comes in handy having a Linux computer for this kind of stuff since for starters, Android is Linux based and you don't have to mess around with drivers. The beauty with Android is you've got the power to get the AOSP experience without rooting or messing around with the phone, for you if you want AOSP don't install Cyanogenmod but go to the Google Edition rom plus find and download the stock TNZ image just in case.

Once you've unlocked the bootloader, by the eyes of Telegistics you've voided your warranty.

Jeepers everyone makes it sound so scary. Installing Cyanogen Mod is rather painless, and the last time I heard someone doing a full brick is... 2011?
