Hi Guys,

Just checking with ya'll about what you think about the LG G2? The specs tell me that it is one hell of a powerhouse and better in specs than the S4, Nexus 5 and HTC One. Just wanted to check what people who've been using it think of it? The buttons, the 4G, the camera, the sound etc. - how is it all?

Also, is there any other phone expected this shopping season that I should look out for? I don't think there are any other ones that match the specs...!

Lastly, what's a better place to buy the phone from? Parallel Imported, Expert Infotech, or Mobile Station? They have all got comparable prices!

Cheers,

Of those options, if the price is similar, I would probably go for Parallel Imported (although it would be worth checking Mobicity and Ebay too) as they are likely to have better post-sales support.

The G2 is great phone from all accounts, and I have seen nothing but glowing testimonials from the many actual owners of the phone in my twitter timeline.

If you're not after a larger phone then I don't really think there are many compelling offerings besides the G2 (if larger is an option then the Note 3 should be on the table as an option). If the waterproofing aspect was a legitimately value-added proposition for your use then the Z1 should also be considered.

I've had one for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. The screen is brilliant, the camera the best on a phone outside of the Nokia beasts. Fast, quick, fluid. Great battery life. Recommend a case though as it can be a little slippery.

I got mine from einfotech.

I upgraded from a Samsung S3, so far so good. Battery life is awesome, screens fantastic but have had one issue.

Recently signed up to a 4G trial with Vodafone but it won't pick up the signal. Popped into a VF store to see if it was something they(or I) had missed but to no avail. It's a parallel import and I see Harvey Norman are now selling them on the 2 degree network which doesn't offer a 4G option yet. After a bit of googling, it appears the G2 4G tech might not be compatible with some networks in the US ATM and I'm assuming its having a similar issue with Vodafone here.

Has anyone with a G2 got it working on Vodafone or Telecoms 4G?

2. will I get OTA update, e.g. when LG release kitkat?

If you want 4G access then before buying a handset make sure it supports band 3 4G / LTE which is 1800Mhz FDD,

4G in the US can be considered 3G 21Mbps and above but 4G in New Zealand is 4G / LTE on 1800Mhz band 3

To gain access to the 4G network APN needs to be ' vodafone '

So i'm guessing this one should be OK with Vodafone and Telecom?

I had a G2 for a few weeks here and it had 4G disabled in firmware - interesting because it is being sold in New Zealand through Harvey Norman, not through a telco so it shouldn't have this.

When asked LG could just reply that it would be included in a future update.

Perhaps it's only the ones sold via NZ retail, not parallel imported. In any case I suggest you have a SIM card working on 4G, open the box in store and test right there before taking it away. If it doesn't work...

I popped into a Telecom retail shop today, a helpful staffmember checked out the IMEI number and told me it *should* work on their 4G network. I'll borrow a live 4G SIM from a friend and give that a whirl soon.

Til then, I'll carry on with what I've got. It's not like dial up slow or anything, lol

thanks, interesting to hear the 2degrees one actually have 4G disabled. I guess it kind of make sense as their 4G network isn't ready yet. But that means one less reason for me to buy their one instead of from parallel imported one.

I will try arrange a 4G sim card :) Thanks!

Yes D802 and a parallel import. I'll also get back to the retail shop and see if there's anything they are aware of that might need tweaking. I had a Galaxy S plus a few years back which, when set up via network text on Vodafone would drop cellular data after a minute or two.

5 minutes back at the shop, the guy changed one of the APN settings and it was rock solid.

Probably won't get that lucky again though ;)

I didn't say "2degrees". AFAIK the LG G2 is sold in New Zealand through retail but not through mobile operators. So there isn't a "2degrees version" or a "Telecom version".
