I use KeePass2 on my PC and phone, it's my password store. I keep the key file on dropbox so I can access the same data in both places. I noticed that the changes I made on the phone weren't being sync'd up... a bit of reading and I don't think Dropbox does that! It only downloads, other than the camera folder. Am I right there?

A bit of testing suggests that Android dropbox only downloads files when you tell it to. The app knows when a file has been updated, but it only seems to update when you click on it, is that right?

This would explain the weird behavior I've noticed, and makes it significantly less useful.

I found an app called DropSync. Has anyone heard of/used it? It seems to keep any folder on your phone sync'd with Dropbox, properly. Any better ideas?

I just made a modification on my work phone to the dbase.

As it had not already been synced with changes made on my personal phone last week, it saved to dropbox and added conflict to the name as soon as I opened dropbox on the work phone to force a sync.

Just loaded keypass on my personal (where I made the mod last week) and made another modification, dropbox on the PC alerted me another change to the original in-sync file was just made :)

So yes, it is able to update dropbox on the fly. As long as you store your dbase in the right location. I had to hunt out forums to see where to add it. The onboard support for keypass is rough.

Which for reference is

/storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/name.kdb

Think of the dropbox app like an extension of the website. Unless you make a change in app/on site, changes you make to files that you download from there will not sync. That's why dropbox's saved local data isn't acessible as regular files unless you export it out.

Apps like dropsync make it work like the desktop client. File explorers like the excellent Solid Explorer let you browse dropbox and interact with it as if it was a local filesystem.

Interesting, thanks guys. I have KeePass pointing at

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/KeePass/databasename.k

From memory when I was looking on the file system it was

/mnt/sdcard/Android/data etc

If I pointed KeePass there do you think it might upload to dropbox when changed, or should I use dropsync and a random folder? If I do that is there a suggested folder to use? Internal not external SD card preferably.
